Another old write up to get the Germany section on my world map coloured in. It was along time ago back in 1991. I had backpacked through Asia and a bit of Africa solo before jumping on an 18 to 35s Contiki tour for a 6 weeks tour of Europe. The bus tour was very different from backpacking by myself, great to have somebody else doing all the organising though it was a lot more restrictive from what I was used to making plans up as I went. The tour only visited Munich and the Rhine Valley over a couple of days near the end. But before the Bus crossed the channel back to England from the Netherlands, I jumped off and made my way back to Berlin.
I used Berlin for a bit of a base and did a bit of a Scandinavian loop of Denmark, Sweden, Norway before back to Berlin on the train. I had a friend in Switzerland so I did a bit of skiing before back again and then got on a small group Russian tour from Berlin again. At the time it was the only way to get into Russia. It was a bit funny as I was the only non German person on this small group tour to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Any way I like Berlin and knew my way from the train to the youth hostel pretty well.
I'd !LUV to see more of Germany in a future trip together. Less war and more love-ly people, I hope!

Moscow and St Pete must've been interesting at that point in time. All the republics breaking away around 91. What was it like there?
Also really cool that these are film scans!
Yes Russia was interesting they wanted us to buy everything in usd on the tour and in hotels but if I changed money on the back market I felt like a millionaire. Anything I bought at a state own shop was very cheap but the free market was just like back home.

I liked the view of the Rhine river, the mountain in the background creates a nice landscape, the Brandenburg Gates have a nice design on the columns.
Cheers!
