This is a continuation of my blog about my trip to Campeche.　I lived in Campeche for two months, staying at a friend's house.　Thinking about it now, I really had an irreplaceable time.　My friends are the ones who have preserved my old memories for me.　We talked a lot about the old days and also made new memories through this stay.

カンペチェへ行った時のブログの続きを書きます。　２か月間、友達の家に泊めてもらって、カンペチェで生活をしました。　今から考えても本当にかけがえのない時間を過ごすことが出来ました。　友人とは、昔の思い出を大切に保存してくれている存在です。　昔話をたくさんし、そして、また新しい思い出がこの滞在を通して作ることが出来ました。

The entire town of Campeche is registered as a World Heritage Site.　The entire town has been beautifully preserved as it was during the Spanish colonial period, with the city walls, streets, and churches still intact.　The Spanish colonial period was the Age of Discovery, and the Caribbean Sea was an important maritime trading area at that time.　And Campeche flourished as a stopover point for maritime trade in the Caribbean during the Age of Discovery, and was also targeted by pirates.　The entire town of Campeche was surrounded by a wall to protect it from pirate invasions, and at the tip of the wall was built this cannon-shaped base.

カンペチェは町全体が世界遺産に登録されています。　町全体がスペイン植民地時代に建造された城壁や、街並み、教会などがその当時のままきれいに保存されています。　スペイン植民地時代は大航海時代にあたり、その当時はカリブ海は大切な海上交易の場所だったようです。　そして、このカンペチェはその大航海時代のカリブ海における海上交易の休憩地として栄え、そして海賊に狙われた町だったようです。　カンペチェの町全体は海賊の侵略から護るように防壁として巡らされており、その先端はこの大砲台の様な拠点を建造しています。

Arriving at Fort Sam Miguel, we all decided to walk around the fort.　The fort was powerfully built, overlooking the Bay of Campeche, and at that time, it was equipped with many cannons.　It seems that when pirates invaded, they were the first to find it and notify the city of Campeche of the invasion.　Nowadays, the fort has been converted into a museum, and many tourists seemed to imagine what it must have looked like in those days from its strong outer walls.

Fort Sam Miguelに到着し、みんなでその砦を歩いてみることにしました。　強固に建設されたその砦はカンペチェ湾を見渡すことができ、当時はその砦には大砲がたくさん設置されていたようです。　海賊の侵略があった際、いち早くそこから見つけ、カンペチェ市内にその侵略を通知したようです。　今ではその砦の中は博物館に改造されていて、多くの観光客が当時の面影をその強固な外壁から想像している様でした。

During the Spanish colonial period, the fort was surrounded by a moat, which is now crawling with green iguanas, but at that time, the moat was filled with water to prevent invasion from the outside.　When we went to visit, wild iguanas were sunbathing in the moat.　We decided to take a walk around the fort in the hot sun, keeping our backs warm and looking sideways at the iguanas that were energized for the day.

スペイン植民地時代、その砦は堀で巡らされていてようで、今ではひやがってグリーンイグアナが闊歩していたのですが、その当時は堀には水をはって外部からの侵略を防いでいたようです。　わたし達が遊びに行った時は、その堀の中を野生のイグアナが日向ぼっこしていました。　熱い日差しのなか、背中を温めてその日の活力しているイグアナの姿を横目に見ながら砦を一周してみることにしました。

While living in Campeche, I ate many foods and drinks that I had never seen before.　I had traveled to Asia and Europe before, but that was the first time I stayed in South America for such a long period of time, and I ate fruits I had never seen before, like the one in the pictures above.　My friend's wife's mother is a good cook, and this fruit came from her garden.　I forgot to ask the name of this fruit, but I remember there were many of them on the tree.　When ripe, the fruit would drop and when you peeled it, a soft white fruit would come out from inside.　They smelled so sweet, and I loved the freshness of the fruit.　She used to make juice from the fruit, and it was really delicious!　Does anyone know the name of this fruit?　If anyone knows, please let me know.

カンペチェに住んでいる間に今まで見たことのないような食べ物や飲み物をたくさん食べました。　今まではアジアや欧州へ旅行に行ったことはあったのですが、南米にこれほど長期に滞在したのはその時が初めてで、上記の写真の様な、今まで見たことのないような果物を食べました。　友人の奥さんのお母さんは本当に料理が上手くて、この果実もお母さんの庭でとれた果実です。　名前を聞き忘れたのですが、この果実は木にたくさんなっていたのを覚えています。　熟した時期になると果実が落下し、その皮をむくと中から白くて柔らかい果実が顔を出します。　とても良い甘い匂いがして、そのみずみずしい果実が大好きになりました。　お母さんはその果実を使ってジュースを作ってくれたのですが、それがまた本当に美味しかったです！　だれかこの果実の名前を知っている人いますか？　もし知っている人がいたら教えてください。

The blue skies of Campeche, my friend and his wife who have been really good to me. And I would like to thank the parents of my friend's wife.　It is time for morning glories to bloom in Osaka.　In Osaka, buildings and houses block us from seeing the open sky like in Campeche, but every time I see the clear sky and morning glories after the rain, I remember Campeche and the many memories I made there.　I hope to be able to speak a little Spanish the next time I go back, and I hope to be able to have a conversation with everyone in Spanish.

カンペチェの青い空、本当によくしてくれた友人夫妻。そして、友人夫人のご両親には感謝です。　大阪でも朝顔が咲く時期になりました。　大阪ではカンペチェの様な広々とした空を見るにはビルや家が遮りますが、雨上がりの晴れ上がった空や朝顔を見るたびにカンペチェとそこで作ったたくさんの思い出を思い出します。　次に行くときは少しスペイン語を話せる様にしていって、皆さんと少しでもスペイン語で会話が出来たらなと思っています。
