Capturing Charles Bridge: A Photographer's Journey

in TravelFeed5 days ago

Last November, I visited Prague for the fifth time since 2000. The city changed a lot during that time. It's become more crowded and touristy. But Prague didn't lose its magic. It's still a prime destination for architecture photography.

And finally, after all these years, I also got the weather conditions I had longed for so long. It had been a dream of mine to photograph the Charles Bridge shrouded in fog. Everything fell into place on the last morning of my visit.

The night had been cold, with temperatures close to zero degrees. It was just around the dew point and enough to create dense fog above the Vltava River.

I first photographed the classic view up on the bridge, facing toward the Old Bridge Tower. At first, the fog was too dense, and only the lights shone through the dark veil. After nearly an hour of waiting, the mist lifted a bit and created the perfect equilibrium.

Afterward, I raced to another viewpoint beneath the Charles Bridge to capture another magical scene. The mix of light, mist, and the gulls circling above the bridge make it my favorite photo of Prague.

If you also want to visit Prague, do so in Autumn. I found the end of October / beginning of November to be perfect. The fall colors were at their peak, and the temperatures were cold enough to allow fog to build. There's no guarantee for such conditions, though. Rest assured, there is plenty to photograph in Prague, even if the weather isn't foggy.

I hope you enjoyed this short article. If so, please let me know in the comments, and I'll include more of those in addition to my long-form photography guides.
