One of my favorite Greek lakes.
Why, you may ask.
Well, while it is located abroad and until this year, when my country was outside Schengen, and sometimes we had to wait for hours to pass the national borders of Bulgaria and Greece, it was still worth it. Now, it is even easier and no time spent at the border anymore.
One of my points for having this place in my favorites - if I feel down, I can jump on my car, fill the gas tank up somewhere on the road, drive for few hours and then arrive at this tranquil and really pristine destination.
There are many hotels in the area. Apart from the airbnbs, only one big hotel, as far as I know.
No towns or cities around the lakes, just small villages with one-story houses, the most.
Simple life, agriculture and farming are what people do around.
Of course, wildlife preserving for the few who are sent there by the Greek government and some NGOs.
I love this all.
Ah, also, the other side I like a lot - I usually don't need to make some preparations or bookings to order a boat ride. There are a few spots where a boat could almost always be rented.
As it is a natural reserve, all the boats come with a skipper, you can't drive it yourself. Tickets aren't expensive, not at all.
This suits me perfectly, as I am always busy with the camera and the telephoto lens on it as birds here always give a lot of material to shoot if I may say this :)
On some trips I had the feeling that at least a few hundred species live there, of course, many of the birds are migratory birds.
Long story short, this place, called Kerkini lake, is simply a paradise for the bird watchers!
So without further ado, let me share some photos from this boat trip...
