The name the Broken Coast is given to a very specific area of the Cantabrian coast, which, located just a mere half dozen kilometres from the stately city of Santander, is famous for its spectacular rock formations, where one of the most outstanding natural environments in Cantabria is also located: the Liencres Dunes Natural Park.
These rock formations, true works of natural surrealism created over centuries by those invaluable helpers of Nature, which are always the wind and the sea, also receive the curious name of Urros, by which they can also be located in that great encyclopedia, which is, without a doubt, the Internet. Many of the old fishing villages, which since time immemorial have been situated on the banks of the ever-rough waters of the Cantabrian Sea, a teacher who has trained the most hardened, daring and brilliant fishermen, have seen how, due to circumstances, their life has changed, although not their traditions, on the banks of a tourism that is increasingly surprised by the natural wonders that this region always offers.
The inexorable passage of time, as well as the raging attacks of the Cantabrian Sea, traditionally with a strong character, have meant that, lately, some of the most spectacular formations, where the water was undermining true cathedrals of subjective beauty, have ended up collapsing, giving these unique rocks other shapes, which, in some way, remind us, likewise, that life is always evolving and that nothing remains eternal in its constant becoming.
This does not mean, of course, that one cannot enjoy a supernatural spectacle, where Nature, superb to inconceivable degrees, also offers the possibility of infinite adventures, where imagination - which some still consider a true treasure - plays a fundamental role, especially if it is combined with those ancient traditions, which placed, precisely in these unique places, the habitats of all kinds of beings from a mythology, which, as fantastic as it may seem to us, still continues to generate an unusual cultural interest.
In such a way that, on the edge of beaches, in some cases still in a semi-wild state, dunes made by a sea with the patience of centuries and rocks undermined to their very heart, the locals have always located the essential habitats for witches and their covens or even for those same sirens that inspired Homer and with whom that peculiar hero of the Odyssey, the cunning Ulysses, had an interesting encounter.
Also, despite their intrusion, the sight of these little villages that are expanding their residential areas, stealing more and more land from a sea that is always jealous of its secrets, also offers a beautiful touch of picturesqueness that further enhances the tourist interest of this very special area of old Cantabria.

I believe that life is a school and every trip is an adventure. It doesn't matter how close or far you go: every place you visit has something to tell you, experiences to share and beautiful memories to keep. I love my country, which, compared to many others, is small but very picturesque. That's why, when I talk about it, I try to put my heart on my sleeve and try to make my enthusiasm contagious and encourage people to visit it. Thank you very much for your kind comment. Kind regards.
This area of Cantabria looks really amazing. It’s a very beautiful place
The world is indeed beautiful
The entire Cantabrian coast contains very special places, although this is undoubtedly one of the best that can be found, at least as far as the Cantabrian part is concerned.
Had no clue about this place even though I love Spain. The rock formations look impressive for sure. Nature is so amazing!
The Spanish coast, especially the northern one, has incredible places. Truly magical and surprising corners that you can discover from the Basque Country to the coasts of Finisterre, in a transcendental journey, which, of course, I assure you will never leave you indifferent. Thank you very much for your comment and a cordial greeting.
The pleasure was all mine. Always happy to discover less-known parts of the globe as when someone says Spain, most likely people think about the famous cities only. Greetings from Romania!
What an amazing and stunning place!!
I love how you described the patience that nature had at the moment of creating all this paradise!
Thanks a lot for sharing!
Thank you very much for appreciating it and best regards.
I'm mesmerized by the views🥰
Thank-you very much
Nature is indeed beautiful. I have never been to a place that amazing and I am at fault here. I have been busy that I fail to let myself explore the beauty of nature
As they say, it is never too late if the happiness is good. I encourage you to do it and discover, not only the natural beauty that exists in the world, but also how rewarding it is to always learn from the best school: Nature itself. Greetings
Thank you so much @juancar347 for those encouraging words motivating words. I absolutely agree with nature being the best school and I will will find time to learn before the year runs off. I guess it's time I take a break
OK. I wish you the best, friend.
Thank you much 🙏
What a very scenic place in spite of its remoteness! We also have a place like that at the northernmost islands here in the Philippines however I only see it in magazines and various social media platforms. Try searching "Batanes Islands" in Google and you will fall in love with it. That place is also home to coconut crabs!🤗🫰♥️
Of course, there are many fantastic places in the world that deserve to be shared. I will follow your recommendation, although I do know Batán, because one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War was fought there, which may belong to or be close to the place you recommend. Thank you very much and best regards.
