Midweek Recharge: A Photo Walk by the Kallang Riverside

in TravelFeedyesterday

I survived Wednesday—happy hump day, everyone! This, of course, applies to those of us in the workforce. Personally, once the middle of the workweek is over and I manage to get through it without feeling too drained, I start feeling much better about the rest of the week. In my mind, it means I’m just a few days away from the weekend, which I’m always looking forward to. The main reason for this is that the weekend is when I finally get to enjoy the activities I’ve been planning throughout the week.

So, what did I do after logging off and soaking in the ambience of the city streets? I took a leisurely walk along the banks of the Kallang River. The gentle breeze made the experience even more enjoyable.

The Kallang Riverside is a spot I find particularly conducive for hanging out or taking a walk along its banks, mainly because of its accessibility. The river stretches from the Singapore River to the Marina Bay area, but if you’re near Nicoll Highway, you’ll find that the Kallang River is just a short walk from the MRT station.

It’s not the most serene place in the city, as there’s a main road nearby with a constant flow of traffic. However, once you get closer to the riverbanks, the noise diminishes significantly, creating a more peaceful atmosphere.

There are decks where people can hang out just to observe or view the river and feel the breeze.

There aren’t many amenities in the area, apart from a public toilet.

I think that’s fine, as most people who visit are either jogging or, like me, simply out for a walk.

I’ve been here before, but I still enjoy exploring parts of the riverside that I didn’t get to check out during my previous visits.

During today’s walk, I noticed a line of trees with leaves that resemble green silver. The leaves have a quality that makes them look as if they’re made of metal with a matte finish. It’s fascinating to come across this kind of tree, especially because the leaves have such a unique appearance.

Every time I visit this place, especially in the late afternoon or evening, I notice a consistent flow of tour groups taking a break here while their tour guide shares information about the area.

Just like today, I overheard a guide pointing out the buildings visible across the river to his group. It’s interesting to observe how the tourists react to everything the guide tells them. I guess that makes him an effective communicator since he’s able to capture their attention so well. It got me thinking—could this be something I’d want to do in the future after I retire? 😂

But then I realized that I’m more of a quiet type when I go on photo walks like this one. Plus, I imagine it must be pretty exhausting to talk while walking or cycling at the same time. So, I guess this profession isn’t for me after all. 😁

Today's weather was simply too perfect to ignore, and it’s probably the reason I felt motivated to go on a photo walk. I don’t regret spending an hour in this area—it was exactly the recharge I needed to get through the rest of the workweek. Here are some photos I took along the riverbanks.

Thanks for joining me on this little journey along the Kallang River. It’s amazing how even a simple walk can bring so much clarity and inspiration to our busy lives. Until next time, keep exploring, and don’t forget to find joy in the little things!
