Small but Terrible Phlegmunculus

in THGaming3 days ago

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! Today, let's take a deep dive to card that has low mana but packs a lot of stats and abilities. The icky Phlegmunculus is a two mana card but has dual attack. Let's check out its stats and abilities in today's post as well as it's possible combos, roles in battle and rulesets.

Lore

Phlegmunculus are literally Uul's nasty phlegm 🤮 Here's their lore from Splinterlands.

Erupting from Mount Praetorous and falling from the sky like viscous curses, phlegmunculi are the diseased sputa of the dark god Uul. They land with a splat, seeping into cracks, clinging to whatever they touch, and ruining everything. They lurch and wobble with malevolent glee, more ooze than organism.

They aren’t strong. They aren’t fast. And they aren’t hard to kill. But strike one down, and you’ll regret it. Because when they’re slain, they explode in a glutinous spray that melts through armor, cloth, skin, and bone.

The ground squelches with every step. And Mount Praetorous is still spitting.

Stats and Abilities

For a two mana card, Phlegmunculus sticks out with its utility. First of, it has dual attack of one ranged and two melee damage. It has decent defense of two armor and five health. It's abilities complement its role and stats. It has Close Range so it can be used as a low mana tank while utilizing its dual attack in the front line. Once it gets defeated, it has the Poison Burst ability that applies poison to its attacker and a chance to also poison adjacent units. It's a nasty card for only two mana.

Role in Battles

The Phlegmunculus is a decent low mana tank. It's stats and abilities make it an offensive tank but it also has enough defensive stats to fulfill the role. It will be a great card to use in low mana battles owing its efficiency. In rulesets where melee units can hit from any position like Equal Opportunity or Melee Mayhem, it can be placed in the rear to guard against sneak attackers.

Low Mana Battle

This is a battle on the top levels with maxed level cards. The battle was for thirteen mana and had the Shapeshift Happens and Explosive Weaponry among the rulesets. The user of Phlegmunculus, CHE22, had him in the tank position followed by Thunderhoof Nomad. This is a great combo to counter the Burst damage. Two one mana melee units followed the line up. The Halfling Refugee is a good choice since the ruleset also includes Super Sneak, enabling it to have the Sneak ability. Finally the team is completed by two mana Kha'zi Conjurer. It packs six ranged attack and has Piercing ability despite its diminutive size. CHE22's team is well built for offense and even has a unit to counter the Burst effect from the ruleset. His enemy also had a good team composed of mostly legendary cards although there is not much synergy in the team. Decrepit Windseer is a decent tank with two ranged damage and has the Close Range ability. It also has Thorns ability to return damage to melee attackers making it a good unit to play in the rear in this ruleset. It has the Bloodline Tribute ability that's useful in the Shapeshift Happens ruleset. In second, he also had the Halfling Refugee and in third the a maxed level Calamity. In the last position, he had a zero mana card Elanor Bravefoot. She has the Blasphemy of Uul ability that would have been a perfect combo with Phlegmunculus.

Both frontlines were defeated on round two. These had some effect in the units. Decrepit Windseer buffed her team because of her Bloodline Tribute ability while Phlegmunculus poisoned two enemy units with its Poison Burst. Meanwhile, Calamity's Electrified debilitation is taking its toll on the team as it also decreases health of allied units every round. Even though it has the Last Stand ability, the combined attack and poison effect led to its defeat.
