What to do on a Sunday morning when family's "visiting"? As @rarej mentioned in his previous post, we'll be having family over for the coming period, which means plenty of organizing, planning and being on the road a lot. The "craziness" has already started and the two who are already here wanted to visit a zoo in the Netherlands.
So we booked some tickets online - because it'll cost more when paying on site at the cash register - beforehand and agreed to meet up at the entrance. Before reaching the entrance we got a glimpse of some of the animals, especially the pink flamingos. There was also an abundance of ducks everywhere, as they were left to roam the vicinity freely.
And though it was a beautiful sunny day, it was very cold especially with the wind blowing in our faces. So at times I put on my hoody to shield my ears from the cold and that's why when we were at the wolfs cages the others jokingly called me Red Riding Hood. The wolves didn't pay us any mind though as they were slumbering and uninterested. Can you spot a wolf?
As lunchtime was approaching and a stroll through the zoo would take approximately three hours, I jokingly started imagining how to cook the animals and how they would taste: in curry maybe and a lot of spices? Would the meat be chewy? Luckily, we came prepared and snacked on the biscuits and cookies we had with us.
There were of course more and different animals to see, but I just wanted to savor the moment and enjoy the shenanigans of certain cute animals. Also, because of the cold my hands stayed in my pockets most of the time.
When we were done roaming the grounds and seen everything there was to see, we left through the nearest exit and made our way to a ramen place. As it was the first time trying Japanese food for one in our party, we advised that person to start with a miso based ramen, while I ordered the Black Garlic Buta Ramen.
The miso based ramen was fine taste wise for that person, but not spectacular. My black garlic based ramen fell more into favor after tasting that soup, as those flavors permeated the senses. The only caveat is, that one has to order that ramen on an empty belly, as it's quite filling. There was even a moment when I doubted myself, if I would finish the bowl.
We also ordered some Gyoza's as appetizer and a pot of tea to warm up from the inside and to cleanse the palate after such a filling, savory and umami meal. Someone else ordered the Karaage-Gyoza don (fried chicken and Gyoza with rice), because a ramen bowl would've been too filling for that person.
Happy to see and catch up with those family members after a long time, we left the ramen place and said to stay in touch. Where should we take the family next? Let me know in the comments below π€.
Ramen always looks BIG in the bowl but is always devoured to the end π
Good choice with letting try the miso ramen.
About thinking how certain animals would taste LOL, I think we humans are so biased, they wouldn't eat a cute rabbit or hamster but wouldn't think twice to eat chicken π.
Hmmm, depending on their taste, the red-light district for the next family trip?π If just so they can say "hey, I have been there".
!LOL I can imagine that some would taste "gamey" and wild, but from experience of certain wild animals I know curry and a lot of pepper are good asics.
Hahahaha, I think some have already walked passed by as they've been to the Netherlands more often than I. Before moving, I only came once to the Netherlands on vacation.

I admire your honest thoughts there. These days such humour is lost, but I see goats (especially when they are noisy) and start to imagine just how long they would need to be cooked.π
Which city was that zoo in? I remember visiting the Panoramic Museum next door to a zoo in The Hague.
The ramen looks like the perfect choice for a wet day:)
!LOL To be honest, I wasn't sure if I would disclose my "inner thoughts" here online, because of all the "woke" culture. But I was like "I'm not hurting anyone and it was a joke in good fun.
Oh and goat meat in stew or in curry would be so delectable! π
It was Artis in Amsterdam. Haven't been to those in other cities yet.
It was π.
