A few weeks ago I've mentioned my trip to Menimi eco resort, with a stroll through the forest as one of the planned activities. The second pastime was relaxing or playing in the Ferulasi falls. It depends on your level of fearlessness that is 😅.
To reach the Ferulasi falls, you'll need to step into those motorized canoes again. More or less the same kind as when I went to Raleigh falls, but with better functioning engines 😂. The journey was without any hiccups, with only a few bumps along the way due to some wild rapids en route. After a few minutes enjoying the scenery in the boats, we reached the Ferulasi falls that owe its name from a rather interesting occurrence.
My dad - who's already been to the region multiple times - told us that he struck up a conversation with the locals and according to them, the falls had gotten their name from iron falling into the river after an accident. Ferulasi stands for "lost iron", loosely translated from Sranan (our lingua franca). Feru coming from the Latin word ferrum and "lasi" means "losing/vanishing". We didn't find any iron in the water though.
What we did find, was enjoying ourselves relaxing and frolicking in the strong current of the water. The flow was strong enough to sit and relax between the rocks or if you dare to take a chance, let yourself be swept by the water as if you're on a slide. The local guides who come to these falls on a regular basis and grew up in the region were the ones sliding off of the stronger current. We found a smaller rapid with a smaller stream that we were able to slide off of.
After some time we needed to head back to Menimi, but didn't want to leave yet, so we made sure to wait for the last boat. It wasn't until we were back, that we realized how hungry and tired we were from all of that playing in the rapids. We washed up and awaited the kitchen bell for our dinner.
Chasse into the backstage! 💃

today.Swimming or just even being in water makes yah hungry for real. Awwwe that picture of you two is wicked shot. You should frame that one for the kids to see 🙈🙉🙊🐵
These days I think I enjoy going to the river just as much as the beach...especially here. The water beating down on you is the best natural massage.
That's so true. I was really enjoying the trip to the fullest. Years before, I was a bit scared of those heavy currents, but after investing in water shoes I try out a lot more, which makes me enjoy the water even more.

today. What a gorgeous spot and great photos to remember it by!
Soooo... no Piranhas then?
Hahaha there are piranhas in this river, but they don't come to the parts where it's turbulent, so we could easily enjoy the rapids and swimming. They like calmer waters.

Good to know and such a shame, I usually prefer swimming in the calmer waters too...☹️
Nut still, if there's water, I will swim in it!
So rapids here I come!
