Luchtenbergia principis in my garden

One of the cactus that has caught my attention is the luchtenbergia principis, because of the shape it has and the beautiful flower it produces every year, to be honest this is the first time I see the flower in my garden and it is a real show for this spring season.

Last year I bought two cacti of this species, and to my surprise the second cactus is the one that bloomed first, I think everything is due to the care that I have had with him since the first cactus I was giving more sun exposure than this one, but not all is lost, today I could see that it is also developing a flower bud although at the moment it is still too small.

The color intensity of the flower is beautiful but difficult to manage when photographing it, it is easy to lose control over the light and the end result will be a yellow clump without being able to recognize the petals of the flower.

This is the other cactus with its flower bud, it is a pity that I will not be able to pollinate them due to lack of synchronization.

And this is how this beautiful pot looks in my hand, as you can see it has grown a lot and its size is bigger than normal, so I think my care has been good, a good substrate, a good amount of light and heat, and a lot of wind.

Another cactus that is getting ready to flower is this small Astrophytum asterias shinshowa, it is on its own roots and if I am not mistaken it is developing a flower bud, the strange thing is that it is not even a year old yet.

This other Astrophytum asterias prolifero is also ready to show its flower.

Same with the Kabuto, luckily I think I will have a chance to pollinate these cacti.

My experiment with graptopetalum macdougallii on rocks has turned out to be good, at the moment it is giving many flowers.

Not everything is happiness, I have seen a couple of cactus that have exploded due to excess of water, although in truth I think it is more because of the nutrients because I have been very careful with the watering, however I will reduce even more the watering to avoid that the same thing happens to the others.

As you can see the spring season is coming strong to my garden, producing many flowers and beautiful colors, soon I hope to share more pictures with the other cactus that have flower, for example I have a columnar of one meter that has 4 flowers but I will talk about it in its time and that will be when it opens its first flower, see you soon.

I love Luchtenbergia! I have 2 little ones, no flowers yet. This was a difficult season for me, I lost quite a few cacti

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, I know it can really hurt to lose our little friends, but it's part of life.

Even here in my city I hear people say they lose cacti and they have no idea why, I guess it must be because of the mix and the ventilation of the place, the other day I was invited to a garden to look for the reason why many of the cacti were getting sick and dying, and the reason was the lack of ventilation, I recommended him to move his garden to the roof and it seems that everything is going better.

Yes, we had some cold rainy days in the middle of summer and that was the thing that finished them

Cant wait to see Astrophytum asterias in bloom. I had one - killed it.

How often do you fertilize?

I fertilize every 21 days and at the moment I am experimenting with adding vinegar to the water to acidify it, I have a few experiments actually.

Oh that is a lot! I read somewhere that it is enough for them to fertilize just once at the beginning of season and that's what I have been doing. I will try to remember to do it more often this year and see how it goes. Yours look great!

I fertilize more often but with a lower concentration, more or less 50% of what I should, also remember that my substrate is almost 100% mineral, my friend Fernando does fertilize a lot and his garden is full of flowers but he usually has more losses than he should.

Yea, I usually make weaker solution too. My mix is san (more than a half) + lava rock + some organic compost. I will switch to few times a year this time and se how it goes :)
Thank you!
