Greetings friends of the succulent gruwers community, today I want to tell you about a plant that I bought recently, it’s my Opuntia Orbiculata cactus. It has long spines with long thin extensions very similar to human hairs and white in color and as you can see it looks like an old cactus. I think this is one of its common names.
After a few days of having it at home I decided to reproduce it, I did so like I do with the common Opuntias, so I cut it into several pieces and from one plant I cut three pieces.
I have transplanted them and now I am hopeful that they can all adapt to the new environment and not be affected by pests.
You also have to be careful with the hairs of the cactus as they cannot receive water directly on them since they will rot in contact with water.
They are cacti that need to be in direct sunlight to keep them in good shape.
I have wanted to get this species for a long time and I have succeeded, but I don't want to have it with too much care because it seems that when my cacti and succulents receive too much care I don't achieve the objective of keeping them alive for a long period of time.
The important thing to make a good transplant of the cactus cuttings is to let the wound of the cuttings heal for about three days before proceeding to put them in the ground, this is how the plant a week after planting quickly adapts to the substrate and begins to give the first signs of supporting the transplant.
I hope you liked my cactus and the transplants.
Thanks for your comments and votes.
I remember my grandmother telling me, that many cactii die if you overwater and overcare them. She had lots of them like you too.
I have a lot of cactus at home but this the first time i’ve seen a cactus that has a lot of spikes or hair.
I had been looking for this species for a long time until I found it. There is also another one with yellow hairs. As soon as I find it I will post it.
Thanks, I’ll be waiting for your next post
