Previously I was showing this guy nearly four years ago in this post and it was a lot bigger back then. What happened, you may ask?
Well.. it started to overgrown the pot it was in, so I decided to plat it in a much bigger bowl (the one in the photo here), but considering the pot is bigger, the soil should have been a lot more gritty and fast draining than in smaller pots. I did not do that.. so when some heavy and longlisting rains came this last spring, the soil stayed wet for a very long time. As a result, a large part of the plant rotted.
Some weeks ago I took it out again, cleaned all the rotted parts, and planted again the good one in the same pot but with better soil this time (I hope it's better anyway). And tadaaa... we have flowers :)
There is another tiny stem potted in a separate pot. Just in case. It is too small to flower and it had no roots, but I can see it growing. So all good.
For now :p
Huernia thuretii
These are small, but very cute little flowers. They look pretty impressive when there is dozens of them on a nice bushy plant.
There are more buds forming, but they will not bloom at the same time. The flowers last just a couple of days, so by the time this one is ready, the currently open ones will be long gone.
The oldest stems look pretty dehydrated and have some damage on the tips - that's ok, they will not grow any taller anyway. Just looks a bit ugly.
The younger ones (photo below) look great though. This was just the big fatty one when I planted it. The little ones already grew after the requeue mission.
And this is the whole pot. Three separate plants in total. Only ne blooming for now.
And now a little bonus. See the white fluff and a tiny little bigger above it? That is a mealybug!
And I would not see it if I didn't take photos today. Or I would when there are dozens of them already.
This one was wiped with a cotton swap soaked in alcohol. Later this year (before cacti go for winter rest) I will water all the plants with Neem oil. That should help keep the buggers away too.

How are you, dear friend @ewkaw
It's a shame to know that part of this beautiful plant has rotted, this is what happens to these plants when they accumulate more humidity than they need
The color patterns and lines of this flower are incredible, it's truly admirable
Soapy water is also a good option to keep bugs away
Have a lovely afternoon
It happens... but as long as there are few good stems, it is possible to regrow it.
Thank you!. Yes, it helps too. I used that for aphis mixed with the Neem oil.
It's a shame that this beautiful cactus plant is rotting, hopefully it will get better in the future and keep taking good care of it, friend @ewkaw😊

Good evening my brother ♥️
It is a very beautiful flower, although the size is not too big but the beauty is very visible and the photography is really extraordinary
Thank you!

Well saved! Mealies and stapeliad family are a very bad mix: kill them all!
Thanks! I thought it was gone. Will have to move it to a different spot for the winter next time.
I am trying! :D
That first shot is a great photo 😍 great that your rescue efforts are already showing good results. I got a plumeria plant from a family member this summer. It is from another plant that their grandma had. So I hope I can get it going. It is doing well I just need to figure out when to bring it inside. It got down to 51F last night. But it won't get colder or stay cold for awhile.
I never had plumeria.. they are very pretty.
Careful with those cold. Once it gets the cold damage it might be hard to rescue.
These little flowers are beautiful. I had never seen small flowers like this before. They look like alien flowers
They are pretty unusual indeed :)
I’ve been trying to take care of my own plants and it’s so rewarding to see them grow.
Yea it is. And quite relaxing too :)
A long time ago I liked this genus of succulent but with the passage of time they have been disappearing almost completely in my garden although there are some that have learned to thrive in rain and sun all year round, and as far as I saw a few days ago they remain healthier than ever, of course they have a good soil mix, I hope that this time everything goes better with your specimen.
I had more of them too. They absolutely hate to be overwatered or in direct sun. Which can happen here a lot. I have four different onces now and I hope they stay alive :p
I will try to find all the ones I have to post them.
That would be very cool :)
