How many times do we need to study the word of God? | The Old Path
Bible references: John 8:31, Matthew 28:19-20
Studying the word of God is a continuous process. In the secular world, there's a popular saying which is "Learning never ends." This is equally applicable to the word of God. We don't study the bible for a given number of time and then stop. We continually study the word of God.
John 8:31 - Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
A true disciple is one that indulge in continuous study of the word of God. Giving yourself to the continuous study of God's word shapes your life. The word of God is food for our spirits. When we consider our human bodies, we ensure to give it food as often as possible.
We can't count the times we have given our bodies food. We continually feed ourselves with food because the day we stop feeding ourselves with food, we begin to experience problems. Lack of food could lead to a malnourished body. We can't leave without food as humans.
Likewise our spirit, if we fail to feed it with the word of God it becomes weak. The word of God is what serves as empowerment to our spirits. We can delegate a particular amount of times we can study the word of God because the growth that takes place in the spirit does not have a limit.
That's why the book of Joshua 1:8 talked about meditating on the word of God continuously; day and night. This instruction was given to us to carryout for the rest of our lives here on earth.
