One of the profound questions that have ever been posed concerns why do people die. It is one of the things most of us consider, particularly in the event of the loss of a loved one. Today, in this review, I would like to describe the subject in very simple terms, utilizing the Bible and at the same time, I would like to discuss my personal thoughts.

At the start of the Bible, it is clear to us the origin of death. In Genesis 2:17, God threatened Adam that he would undoubtedly die in case he ate out of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

But Adam disobeyed. Due to this disobedience, death came to the world. Romans chapter 5 verse 12 states, that through one man sin entered the world, and death by sin. This implies that death was not the original plan of God on us. It came as a result of sin.

When I started reading about this subject, I learned something crucial death is not only the physical termination, but a spiritual loss of God. When one is in a state of sin then he is already a dead individual. Ephesians 2: 1 states, And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. This reveals that there are two sides to death, which comprise the physical death of the body and physical death of the soul.

But the good thing is that God has not left us hopeless. Although, death was brought through Adam, life was brought through Jesus Christ. John 11: 25: I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, but was dead, nevertheless shall he live. This brought me a great comfort to my heart when I read it. It implies that death is not the last tale of the believers.

The other aspect I observed in thinking about the subject is that the death situation reminds us of the brevity of life. It pushes us to live wisely. In Psalm 90:12 it is said, So teach us to count our days, That we may put our hearts to wisdom. This bible verse makes me learn to live with meaning, to love those around me more, and to be ready to go to heaven.

So, why do people die? According to the Scriptures:
– Because of sin.
– Since our life on earth is temporal.
So that death is a road to immortality.

This is but Part 1 of the complete comprehension yet we already know that death has a purpose, a reason and a remedy with Christ. Although the subject matter is profound, the bible provides us with an understanding and as I read it out, I really felt that I spent many hours learning, contemplating and gaining a better insight into it.
