This is one of the questions that arise frequently as Christians, particularly because movies can be found everywhere now, in theaters, on YouTube, on Netflix, even WhatsApp status. The Bible does not imply that you should not watch movies, but it provides us with principles on which we base our decisions.
When movies make us think or engage into activities that make God displeases, then it turns into a sin. Philippians 4: 8 instructs us to concentrate on what is pure, noble, and praiseworthy. When a film challenges us to violence, lust, lies and earthly ways of life then as children of God we have to stay away, but when it gives us inspiration, or educates the morals, or glues the family together, or amuses us without vitiating our intellects, then it is not sinful.
In our world, where stress is adequate and entertainment is part of our everyday life, we can relax with the help of movies. However, we must be orderly. What we watch, when we watch it and the amount of time we spend in watching should be guided by the Holy Spirit. Anything that crowns in our hearts on behalf of God is an idol.
Watching movies is not therefore a sin in itself but can be a sin if it takes us away from the presence of God.
Your story is very interesting. Whenever we enjoy a movie, we must always keep God in mind and not distance Him from our hearts, so that we may be wise enough not to be influenced by the messages of certain films that lead us to abandon God's path.
