It is the power of the Holy Spirit that can change a person. Any religion in which the Holy Spirit does not operate cannot change a person's character. This is why following the religion that Jesus Christ established is the solution to the problems of humanity. People cannot change from doing evil things because their minds are corrupt with evil works. Their hearts are wicked. The Bible says that the heart of man is desperately wicked. Man thinks evil and does evil continually. The heart of man is desperately wicked.
We cannot make our lives good or we cannot respond to the things that concern God rightly on our own. We need the help of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit working in our hearts that cleanse our hearts and make it right. No man can make himself right and pleasing to God without the help of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We should be well acquainted with the Word of God. This is why we should be reading our Bibles regularly. We should listen to the teachings of Jesus Christ. We should allow what we are hearing to influence our lives. We should be transformed by the power of the Word of God that renews our minds. When the word of God dominates our lives, we will produce the fruits that commensurate with what the Bible teaches.
