Is A Man's Fate Controlled By God? | Part 1 | The Old Path

Hello Brethren.

On this topic, Bro Eli expounded on the concept that God gave the first man and woman the ability to make choices. In Genesis Chapter 2, verse 16, God commanded Adam that he could freely eat from every tree in the garden, except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This verse implies that Adam had free will and the ability to obey or disobey God's command.

While it is commonly believed that God was referring only to the fruit of the trees, Bro Eli pointed out that the verse's meaning goes beyond the literal interpretation. If one examines the verse closely, it is evident that even the bark and shoots of trees like the bamboo can be consumed. Therefore, when God said, "of every tree of the garden, thou mayest freely eat," He was allowing Adam to enjoy the fruits of nature to the fullest extent possible.

However, there was a catch. God warned Adam that if he were to eat from the forbidden tree of knowledge, he would surely die. This warning shows God's concern and love for us, as He does not want us to be lost or suffer needlessly. It also demonstrates that Adam had the power to choose, but the warning made it clear that there were consequences to his actions.

Bro Eli further explained that this concept has significant implications beyond the story of Adam and Eve. It shows that God is not a puppet master, controlling every aspect of our lives. Instead, He has given us the gift of free will, allowing us to make our own choices and live our lives as we see fit. However, this gift comes with responsibility. We must choose wisely, taking into account the potential consequences of our actions.

The warning given to Adam also illustrates the importance of obedience. Even though God gave Adam the freedom to choose, there were still boundaries that he had to respect. In the same way, we must obey the laws and rules that govern our lives, whether they are moral, legal, or spiritual. Failure to do so can have severe consequences, just as Adam experienced after he ate from the forbidden tree.

Bro Eli's interpretation of Genesis Chapter 2, verse 16, emphasizes the importance of free will, responsibility, obedience, and the consequences of our actions. It teaches us that God is a loving and caring God who wants us to live our lives to the fullest, but also wants us to make wise decisions and avoid unnecessary suffering. By heeding these lessons, we can live fulfilling lives and honour the gift of free will that God has bestowed upon us.
