LESSONS LEARNED:
Giving in the church of God should be voluntary as the Bible records in 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Everyone should give according to the detects of his or her heart.
There shouldn't be any fixed charge for offering, neither should there be a compulsory donation in the church of God.
So in the church of God, the brethren should be led by the spirit of God to give their contributions. They should do things willingly.
In Isaiah 1:19, it's recorded that if we'll be willing and obedient, then we're entitled to the fruits of the land.
We also learnt that tithing isn't a law of Christ. That not paying tithe doesn't mean stealing from God.
Another doctrines we learned is making of vows.
Vows shouldn't be compulsory, but a voluntary act.
If one desires to have a particular thing, he can willingly make a vow, and when he got that thing, he should redeem his vow.
Making of vow is good, but not redeeming is worst.
It is better not to vow than to vow without redeeming, according to Ecclesiastes 5:4-5.
We should always learn to offer offerings of thanksgiving to God.
God has been wonderful to us, so we should give him thanks always.
The Bible records that it is a good thing to give thanks to God.
When we give thanks, we glorify God.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, the Bible admonishes us to give thanks in everything to God.
Moreover, we learnt that when we make contributions, we shouldn't make noise about it. It should be between us and God, that God who sees in secret would reward us openly.
If we boast of our contributions, we'll only receive praises from men without any reward from God.

I had no contrary belief regarding this.

The has further reminded me that I shouldn't make any vow without redeeming.
