In this teaching, Bro Eli shared many ways to help teens overcome depression. He pointed out that, parents should bring up their children in the way of the lord.
According to him, frustrations come later when you deny your child the necessary training. This means that children should be trained in the ways of the lord, in the doctrines of Christ Jesus. They should know how to pray and commit their challenges to God, believing that they'll receive solutions from God, instead of resort to depression. Children should be taught to wholly depend on God for everything in life.
Children should grow up with the fear of God, not to engage in vices and addiction to drugs.
So parents should teach their children, the ways of the lord while they're still young.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
In the formative years of children, it is a parental duty, responsibility and divine obligation to train up their children in the way they should go. The word of God tells us train up a child in the way he should go. When he is still a child, he must be trained. Training does not happen overnight. Training a child may take many days, Months, Even years.
The training is necessary because the child in its formative years of life Should be knowledgeable of what life may bring; the frustrations in life, what may cause happiness, contentment in life, etc.
A child should be taught how to handle failures and challenges in life. A child should grow with the understanding what he or she will meet later in life or much later in life. An untrained child will cause heartaches.
Proverbs 10:1
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
Proverbs 17:25
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
From the scriptures above, an untrained child would bring shame to the parents.
He would cause the parents grief. He might be involved in thuggery or rubbery, thus bring pains in the parents.
Training up children does not mean that challenges would not come, but it will be lesser if we have followed the instructions of the maker of life to train up a child in the way he should go while he is still a child. And when he is old, the guarantee of the word of God is, he will not depart from it. He will be accustomed to it. He will care for the training that you have given him or her.
The word of God gives guide and correction. Frustrations come later when children are denied the necessary training. So parents should train up their children in the admonishion of the lord.
