Which Day Is the True Sabbath?// Mcgi Topic Review (part 1)

Many people believe that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, as taught in the Old Testament. However, the New Testament reveals that God appointed a different day of rest for Christians. In Hebrews 4, the apostle Paul explains this directly to the Hebrews the very people who originally practiced the seventh-day Sabbath.

Paul teaches that the Christian Sabbath is not the same sabbath that Moses and Joshua instructed the Israelites to observe. In Hebrews 4:8, he emphasizes that God later introduced another day, a new appointed time for rest that is distinct from the traditional seventh-day Sabbath.

Even Jesus Himself did not strictly follow the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath. This is one of the reasons the Jewish leaders sought to kill Him. They failed to understand that the seventh-day Sabbath had a divinely appointed end. God had already ordained that the covenant of Moses including the Sabbath would conclude at specific time.

To support this, Hebrews 7:12 teaches that when Jesus became High Priest, a change in the law was necessary. This period is called the “time of reformation,” which began with Christ’s ministry. Under this new covenant, practices such as observing Sabbaths, new moons, and even tithing as commanded under the Mosaic Law are no longer binding. The law of Moses has been replaced by the law of Christ.

Therefore, the New Testament shows that the seventh-day Sabbath given to Israel ended, and God appointed another day for His people under the new covenant.
