What I learnt during the teaching of Bro Eli's teaching today:
You must learn to pay your vow once you make it. Numbers 30:2 KJV
If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
You won't be faithful to God if you don't keep your vow.
You must do according to what you have vowed. 2 Corinthians 9:9 KJV
(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
The church can't survive without contributions. Bro Eli didn't preach because of money but because he had money.
It has to be voluntary, not fixed prices. 2 Corinthians 8:3 KJV
For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
Mark 12:42 KJV
And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
Contributions are to be given during services because bills will be paid like electricity, water, internet, satellite, television, radio, for takin care of widows, orphans, dialysis of brethren etc.
James 1:27 KJV
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
1 Corinthians 16:1 KJV
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
This is done to propagate the gospel, people need to know the true doctrine of the Lord Jesus.
As a preacher you need streams of income for your livelihood while the contributions of the brethren is meant for propagation of the gospel.
This contribution must be voluntary, God is leaving everyman to decide on what to be given. 2 Corin. 9:7.
Philippians 4:15-17 KJV
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. [16] For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. [17] Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
There was no deception in what St Paul did, unlike some churches who have made prices for the members to pay. Bro. Eli gave us some examples by showing us receipts for the things the members are to pay for.
Acts 4:36-37 KJV
And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, [37] Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
He sold his land and gave the money to the Apostles voluntarily.
A brother gave a parcel of land to Bro. Eli but he gave it to the church where a worship center was built.
Acts 5:1-5 KJV
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, [2] And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. [3] But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? [4] Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. [5] And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
Ananias was not faithful in his giving, he tried to keep part of the money and lying that he had brought everything.
Some people have initiative and can volunteer to do things not like Judah a thief who make suggestions in order for him to steal.
John 12:6 KJV This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Handling of contributions should be done by honest people and not the preacher.
2 Corinthians 8:20-21 KJV Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: [21] Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
- Thanksgiving offering which is voluntary is a vow. Psalm 116:17-18 KJV
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. [18] I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people,
Offering of Thanksgiving could be due to God's protection, success in certain examination etc.
Jeremiah 30:19 KJV
And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
Out of the people of God shall be thanksgiving. Hebrews 13:15 KJV
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
We must praise the name of the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
God would have us be grateful to him all the time. Romans 1:21 KJV
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
2 Corinthians 9:13 KJV
Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men ;
Learn to give thanks to God in every thing. - Doing good: Hebrews 13:16 KJV
But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
You're to decide on the good deeds you're to do to your fellow men. Whatsoever thing you are doing should be known only to God. Matthew 6:1-4 KJV
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. [2] Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [3] But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: [4] That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
A believer must offer thanksgiving (praises), make contributions and also do good to others voluntarily. Psalm 50:23 KJV Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
Parents should cater for their children, they shouldn't depend on their children.
