Bible scriptures: Ecclesiastes 5:4, Proverbs 13:12 Proverbs 27:1
No one certain about what the future holds. It is not really advisable to make promises that you are not really certain of fulfilling, especially to children. Anything can happen tomorrow. Giving someone your word and then being unable to stand by it is not good.
Proverbs 27:1 - Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Even though we genuinely make a promise and hope to fulfill it, we may be caught up by an event in life which may deprive us of fulfilling that promise. For parents who love making promises to their little kids, Brother Eli points out in this teaching that it is much better to surprise your kids than make promises to them, which in some cases are not guaranteed.
Ecclesiastes 5:4 - When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Even God is not pleased when we don't stand by our words. It is vain to make a promise and not to keep it. We should not be hasty in making promises.
It is better not to make promises at all than to make them without fulfilling them, the Bible counts it as a sin.

We must endeavor to keep every of our promises to our children
This is a good lesson from Bro Eli. We should make surprises instead of making unfulfilled promises
