One of the major prerequisites for picking a partner is by looking out for someone who has the same belief as us. As Christians we should make sure that our partners are equally believers. The Bible told us not to be equally yoked with unbelievers. Going into marriage is not something that we do carnally.
The purpose of marriage is so that two people can come together and help each other in fulfilling their purpose in life. When seeking for a partner we should make sure that it is someone that can help us achieve our God given vision in life. It has to be someone who is willing to go to any length with us. When two people are saying different things disunity is likely to take place.
We need to seek direction from God before going into it. Beyond what we see with our physical eyes we should also pay attention to what our spirit is saying.
