Our heart plays a very vital role in our decision to follow God’s commandments. It is our hearts that receive the Word of God. It is our hearts that believe in God. Our heart is the soil in which the word of God is planted. The kind of heart that we carry determines how we are going to receive the Word of God and how much fruit we will be able to produce. The Word of God is the seed that is being planted in our hearts. Bro Eli Soriano explained to that according to the teaching of Jesus Christ in the parable of the sower, there are four types of hearts.
The Wayside Heart
Matthew 13:3-4 (KJV) And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
The wayside heart cannot resist the distractions and intrusion of the devil and worldly vices into it. It is easily accessible to the enemies who come in and steal away the Word of God that is planted in it. This class of people receive the doctrines and do not guard their hearts against the deceptions of the devil. They are not watchful. Their minds are easily deceived.
The Stony Heart
Matthew 13:5-6 (KJV) Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
The stony heart does not have enough base to keep the Word of God. When the heat of temptations falls on it, the Word of God withers away easily. They do not have the strength to withstand the test of time. When this kind of people come and receive the doctrines, they cannot resist the external heat of temptations and trials that come their way. They lack faith to hold on to the Word of God.
The Thorny Heart
Matthew 13:7 (KJV) And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
The thorny heart is full of worldly affiliations. There are too many carnal pleasures and materialism occupying such hearts. They are choked by these carnal pleasures and eventually, the Word of God in them dies.
The Good Heart
Matthew 13:8 (KJV) But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
The good heart is the fruitful heart. The Word of God that is planted in it grows and produces fruits in sixtyfolds, in thirty folds, and in hundred folds. God delights to see us bear fruit of righteousness unto Him. Let us endeavor to make our hearts like the forth ground so that we can bear fruits unto God.
