Seeing this topic, I had to select it for my article of the day based on the season we are in which is Christmas.
Forgiveness of our sins starts from the moment our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world and we are given the grace of Love and forgiveness from the sins that were originally meant to cause our eternal destruction.
Why must we forgive? Forgiveness on its own without taking it spiritually, brings peace to one's mind.. The fact that you have no one in your mind negatively brings an internal peace cos for me, I feel some kind of hit in my mind or heart when I come across someone I'm not in good terms with which I know will be harmful to my health so I ensure to try to settle any rift or misunderstanding I have with anyone to avoid this in occuring.

So we must ensure to have the spirit of forgiveness, forgiving those who offends us no matter how hurtful it may be. Just according to how Jesus told Peter to forgive those who offends him 77 x 7 times which depicts that we must always forgive those who commit sins against us.
However, for the fact that we receive forgiveness from God and man does not mean we should keep repeating the same mistake and keep committing sins. There are limits to grace just like we can't compare a glass grace to a plank grace so we must not compare ourselves when it comes to receiving the grace of forgiveness. Mine might differ from yours and vice versa.
