Onthel bicycles and the history of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia

in Photography2 years ago

Hi hive lover's

Before cycling became a trend among the public, bicycles had existed for a long time. The ancients made onthel bicycles as a means of transportation and as personal vehicles, because in ancient times onthel bicycles were the only means of transportation that were affordable to the public, just like today's motorbikes. Onthel bicycles began to be used by Indonesian people from the Dutch colonial era, from 1950-1970. And after 1970 and up until now people have been busy using motorbikes and cars for transportation.

When I saw the onthel bicycle that was displayed on the wall at a Pacific Coffee & Resto, I immediately remembered when I was little, where my parents used to ride on the back of the bicycle when traveling. Onthel bicycles can make users healthier, avoid traffic jams, save costs and are also free from pollution

Now onthel bicycles are again in demand by the public for being used as a means of transportation, sports, and also for refreshing, because apart from their unique shape, onthel bicycles are also synonymous with the history of old Batavia when the Dutch colonials still occupied Indonesia.
