Mount Assiniboine provincial park was a place I dreamed about for years. Finally, with a little “photography/hiking lottery” luck we had secured our camping for the week September 2021.
Although I would love to do a separate post about this trip, I wanted to highlight one of the most special nights I have ever experienced. We were nearing the end of our trip, and the weather had been incredibly variable. With our one chance at a clear night, we set out in the middle of the night in bear country to photograph the milky way.
Sometimes, nature does all the work and we are simply observers. All the bad nights and bad photographic conditions melt away with a night like this. The weather was mild, the night was quiet, the skies were clear - and the milky way was in the most perfect placement imaginable.
We sat and photographed while enjoying the night. It felt like we were the only people in the world enjoying this show. If anyone were to ask me why I do photography, this night sticks out in my mind.
Cheers,
Sara.

wow!!! what a privilege to be able to appreciate such a view
Love it when everything comes together in the end. Moments like that are what we live for. Beautiful photo and thanks for sharing your experience!
So stunning! That reflection in the water <3 what a peaceful night :D
It sounds like a perfect evening. What a gorgeous photo to remember it with. :)
It really was! Sometimes with days like this I feel I have to share because I wish everyone could be there with me :)
What an awesome photo!
This is so true.
Looking at this photo and reading your description of this night, I would definitely love to read your post about this trip.
Thank you for reading and enjoying! Absolutely, it was a big adventure-I will put it on my list :)
👍
Assiniboine is Bae. Absolutely love this place. I've now been twice, and capture the milkyway here as well and it's still a place I'd love to return to. Next time I want to go during the winter though!
Glad you had a wonderful experience shooting the milkyway too. It can sometimes be a real taxing experience - but just like you I find more often than not its the most magical time to be awake. To think you may be the ONlY person on Earth currently looking up at any one place in the night sky. Its a magical feeling.
Isn't it amazing! I would also like to return in the winter someday :). It was also so wild no one else was awake, missing one of nature's most beautiful shows.
So nice. I have a shot which is very similar to this one. Such a wold class location.
I believe I have seen some of your amazing Assiniboine images. It is such a beautiful place truly. Even after wanting to go for so long, nothing beat being there in person.
A little star therapy will do that. Love this Sara!
Simple but effective! Thanks for being here
Assiniboine is truly a magical place, one of my favorites in the Rockies. Absolutely stunning shot😯
Isn't it the best? Something about it. Thank you, and thanks for being here!
Absolutely gorgeous image, Sara! Those moments when everything comes together perfectly don't come around too often, but when they do, they are truly magical. Have to soak it all in and I'm so glad you were able to!
Wonderful Milky Way image Sara. Nice natural editing too. There is nothing quite like being under those dark skies.
