From Shipyards to The river and Back Again.
The Shipyard was littered with the hulls of ships. On railroad tracks sat the boat we were to sail soon. But the day was hot, almost too hot. For the sun burned in the sky and the harbor was still. The workers walked around here and there, perspiration dripping down their faces. The day just got hotter from their! Oh yea.. their was sailing as well.
Hoi An located in central Vietnam is a great place for tourists. There are many things to see and do here - from clam fishing to crab hunting, with the chance to have lunch with a local family to experience the traditional Vietnamese way. Hoi An sits along a small, picturesque river that leads out to the ocean.
I had been invited to come on a sailboat by the people at the Danang Sailing Club in Hoi Ah. It was on a tiny catamaran - a boat with a small motor. It would've been a great day for the sales had not the engine broken.
Here are some photos from this experience.
Is the boat that would be my home next couple of hours named "Christa". A small catamaran that is seen better days but can still sail, and is fun.
In this marina there were lots about colorful paint jobs that have also seen better days, and some of them getting refurbished.
The blue-and-white coat of paint look really nice in this boat.
The way they move these vessels around the boat yard are on train tracks, and a giant wench and pulley system, Was quite fascinating to watch them move this boat around.
But we forget the moving process here just a few more pictures of the small sailing vessel.
You could almost imagine jumping off of it into tropical waters right?
"Christa"... You are crazy one Christa.
I really like the font job on this boat, The red drop shadow with the text kind of retro but modern same time, and the little curls on the "2"really set it off. I wonder what font face it is?
Littered all of the grounds lots of wood Scraps, convoys surprise at how little people care you walk around flip-flops in places like this... Back home in the states that would be a liability waiting to happen they would say no. oh Vietnam.
This quote really pulled the boat onto a horizontal moving is the drag it to the launch bay for the entry into water.
Slightly better view of that transition.
This was the point I was told to get on the boat as we were launching, no smashing of a champagne bottle. lol
These tracks descended deep into the bay
Kaplan were finally out at sea could look back the boat floated away, and the hall back in the train tracks waiting for the next boat.
I really enjoyed looking all the different personalities of the other boats out there. Such as these boats right here, working boats for fishermen.
Also some really stunning views different bridges and mountains
Everything was going good until the engine on the back stopped working, something along the lines of its water cooling pump died.
We drifted for little bit before putting up on the sails And decided to head back, Also the marina that we have to declare where were going before heading out.
For the short time while at sea views were nice, I can imagine taking up the sails and going for a cruise could even be better.
We did even Unfurled the mainsail for a second (As we had no engine anymore and this was the quickest way to get back)
This is Andre Standing on the stern of the boat waiting for us to come up to the dock to link it and tie us on.
After this we spent about an hour working out different ways to tie the boat onto the so that it would not be crushed in low tideWhile the temperature kept rising 102° Phew, I got way too much sun that day... Way too much sun. After things look secure enough I waved goodbye to my new friends walked back down the sketchy dirt road to my motorbike headed home.
All in all it was a very fun adventure, be it a bit too hot for my liking... but still I do have a dream of heading out and Setting sail across the ocean one day, Not sure why... But does seem like a fun thing to do.
As always thank you for taking time out of your day to check out my post, hope you found it interesting and you back here tomorrow for another adventure.
Cheers
