Hello!
I had a very hard time with deciding what and how to shoot Today.
I tried everything with kiwi fruits, kiwi fruits with lime, kiwi and lime with something else, even rolls of masking tape and my old glasses. I just couldn't figure out what would make a nice still-life photo.
Then it came to me as I saw the bottle of brandy on the kitchen counter. I wanted to shoot the bottle of brandy because I had already deemed it impossible.
But I didn't want to fill a glass, because that'd meant I'd probably have to drink it too. And I'm not that much of a drinker. I already downed one glass Yesterday and I don't think it is appropriate to turn into a drunkard for art.
So how would I seize this sudden moment of artistic clarity?...

Oops, I forgot to take Ninnu for a walk. I've gotta do it ASAP. She must be aching to pee, because of the puppies she's carrying.
Did I forget to mention that too? Yes, @Ninnu is becoming a mother. She's got at least 3 puppies in her tummy, and they are due on 3.-5. January.
I see she hasn't been making updates lately but she does have a really good reason though, because she's been a bit tired with her tummy growing and weighing a lot more than normally.
Ah, but I digress again... gotta go now...

Yes it is almost as if Ninnu was a daughter of mine. It is too bad we will likely have to sell all the puppies. I was kind of hoping we could keep one.
But maybe it's better this way. We can always buy another puppy later.

Thank you for the ecency tokens! I figured the one that looked like it had the most dynamic range would be taken with the DSLR sensor. And the least with the tablet, because most people aren't taking photos with their tablets. It's an interesting study with the different gear you have available.
Thanks! The truth of the matter is I don't really like the feeling alcohol gives. I used to, but lately I've generally been satisfied with one serving whenever I've had any. Often there are months in between those.

In my case the phone has the worst camera, but I guess the extra lighting helped it with the results.
The most interesting thing I found out is that there is not really that much of a difference in them. I could post a photo taken with the smartphone and none would be wiser if I didn't tell it wasn't taken with the DSLR.
I mean the quality is passable at the very least, and if the subject is good enough, nobody would be bothered to start peeping at the pixels.
It might even help people get over with gear anxiety. I know I've been having that even while owning a DSLR. My recent mini-studio project helped me a lot with overcoming the feeling of having inadequate gear.
I still want the new EOS R5 though.
More and more the real expensive gear seems to be useful for making shots at the extremes. I still want an A7S II for its low light capability. I haven't been following cameras much lately, so I don't know if another brand has stepped up to that level. But looks like the A7S III is just coming out so maybe now's a good time to make a trade for what I've got? I might actually use it once in a while.
I've heard good things about the Canon R5 low light capabilities. Looks like it's a pretty good competitor to the A7S III. The only thing I don't like about it is the price.

An increasing distaste for alcohol tends to come with aging. The body copes with any significant amounts of alcohol worse as the years go by. One begins to associate alcohol with the worsening hangovers. My drinking went down considerably upon graduation from university and the second time around the age of 35. Now just a couple of beers is enough. I drink them after sauna and that's that. I haven't had high-ABV craft beers at weekends for ages now.
I can attest to this. My history with alcohol is quite similar. I do occasionally buy stuff like rum, gin or whisky for our cupboard, more for the taste of it than anything. In beers and such, the dark ales are my favourites for their taste though. But I guess you knew that... ๐ค
Yep. Maybe I will drink something special this Christmas but I won't be drinking anywhere near as much as in the past. A bottle of red wine may be bought to be had at Christmas meal, though.
