Growing up as an African child I wanted to be free and independent so bad, often times I think about the different scenarios in my head, when I'm grown living alone and deciding on the thing I want to do without having to take permission or orders from someone. Coming across this weekly questions on abundance tribe community brought up a whole lots of memories (which I'm actually smiling remembering how ridiculous they were).
Freedom means different things to different people; for some it could be financial freedom which is being able to buy whatever you want and financially stable, for some it's social freedom that is going out and coming home at your own free will without getting punished or shouted on.
Are we really FREE??
Getting admitted into the university felt like I've finally gotten what I wanted and also staying off campus was the perfect picture I've imagined. Now I was far away from parents, family members and to some extent even the school authority and I had nothing to worry about(I was like this is the dream 😄😄). But I realized that I enjoyed my own company, the things that normally get me excited as a child don't seem to matter anymore. I would rather prepare my favorite meal and put on my favorite TV shows to watch than go hang out with friends, the restrictions I was getting at home turned to a hobby and I was actually enjoying every bit of it.
So now to the question, personally I think freedom is just the ability for you to choose whatever makes you happy, on your own terms and philosophy without it being influence by anything or anyone. If sitting by a quite lake and reading a tragic story makes you happy and you are able to have access to that, that's FREEDOM. Hanging out with friends joking and laughing about old jokes from childhood without bothering about life issues is also your own way of freedom. So I think freedom is what you literally love doing and the ability to do such things at any given time. The end result of freedom should be HAPPINESS.
To me, freedom is of different types. It could be going on a road trip with you best friends and making making beautiful memories or having a weekend getaway with your spouse and completely get soaked in the emotions at that time.
So in conclusion, freedom is simply having access to doing what makes you happy and having no regrets.
