Le tout premier microscope a été créé en 1595, à l’époque du roi Henri IV.
C’est Zacharias Janssen, un fabricant de lunettes hollandais, qui a eu l’idée de superposer deux verres de lentille (les lunettes de l’époque) dans des tubes coulissants, afin de grossir de très petites choses.
80 ans plus tard, Antoine van Leeuwenhoek et Robert Hooke y apportent quelques modifications pour observer des choses qui étaient invisibles à l’œil nu! Ils observèrent notamment une cellule humaine.

Le microscope est aujourd’hui indispensable, il permet de comprendre les maladies pour découvrir des traitements. Il a permis la découverte des virus, des bactéries, de l’ADN, etc…
