Long Weekend, Busy Weekend: The Hectic Life of a 4th Year College Student

Have you ever tried wanting to spend your long weekend on relaxing and resting while not thinking about your work at all? Because me, I haven't. Hey, Hivers! It's me, makiyumee! Today's blog is about my long weekend and how I had spent it. Wanna know about the things that I did? Well, stay tuned because we will be starting now, let's go!

It was supposed to be a delightful long weekend, starting on August 23, 2024. Everybody was getting ready to relax and take a break from the regular school routine, so there was an air of excitement. After all, it was Ninoy Aquino Day, a public holiday, and not a single class was in action. When we left the school grounds the previous day, we all held onto the hope of sleeping in, relaxing, and enjoying some much-needed rest.

However, that ideal swiftly turned into a far-off ambition for my classmates and me. The instructors had different plans for us as we packed our luggage and got ready to leave campus. They piled readings, projects, and assignments on top of our already full to-do list of things that needed to be done, one by one. It seemed as though a tsunami of obligations fell on us all at once, with each duty adding to the burden already resting on our shoulders. Initially consisting of a few manageable items, my to-do list quickly grew into an intimidating page full of endless duties.

None of us failed to notice the absurdity of the situation. What was supposed to be a vacation during a long weekend has become a work marathon. However, when the immediate shock subsided, an odd resolve started to take hold. That means we would have been deep in our books, taking everything one task at a time, while everyone else might have been having a break. The purpose of the long weekend had shifted from leisure to determination, as we demonstrated to ourselves that we could handle any task, even if it came as unexpectedly.

The next morning, feeling the weight of the day ahead of me, I grabbed my backpack and hurried out the door as the daylight began to peak through the windows. The majority of people were enjoying their long weekend, and the streets were surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. But rather than relaxing at home, I was heading to my classmate's place, and as I got closer, I could hear the muffled sounds of conversation and laughter growing louder.

My groupmates were already seated around the dining table when I got there, papers and laptops scattered all over the place. As everyone shared thoughts and suggestions, the mood in the room was light but concentrated. There was a mutual awareness that this was our opportunity to do something of which we could be proud, and it wasn't simply about finishing the work.

There was a sense of relief in starting early, despite the task ahead. We were aware that there were still unfinished tasks waiting to eat up our time. However, for the time being, we were here, concentrated on producing the most amazing presentation possible, aware that the more we managed to do today, the easier it would be on us in the days ahead.

Because of how busy I was while preparing and planning for our group presentation, I forgot to take pictures of our progress and our work to share it to you guys. My mind was so occupied with opinions, suggestions, and what ifs. But despite the lack of photos, I still wanted to share this experience to all of you.

After we planned about what we were going to do in our group presentation, it was time to make our script since this will serve as our flow for the presentation. It took a lot of time making the script and when the sun had set, we failed to finish our script on time so we just decided to go home for that day. The next day, we went back to my classmate's house and continued on our script. We made sure to finish it as fast as we can so that we could rehearse on our actions and dialogues.

Finally, when we were done with the script, we started on rehearsing our lines and our actions. We didn't have a hard time rehearsing since the script was there to guide us on what we were going to do. We were in the middle of rehearsing when our group leader got a message that we had to go to school to start preparing for the program which was going to be for the Buwan ng Wika.

So, we abandoned our practice for a few hours and went to school to start planning for the event. Before I entered the campus, I decided to take a break first and refreshing myself with a very affordable fruit and milk drink that can be bought in Macchiato Up which was just in front of Medellin National High School. After finishing my drink, I went to our campus and joined my classmates in planning for the event.

Some of us were assigned in making the exhibit while the others were assigned in making the program flow and the games for the event. It was tiring but my classmates and I still worked hand in hand in order to finish the task immediately. As I worked on my task for the event, a classmate of mine suddenly asked about our presentation and that was when she mentioned about these certain questions that needed to be answered by our presentation.

I remembered how I panicked that time because our group performance didn't met those questions while my group mates assured me that everything was going to be fine. I had guess that too much sugar makes me a bit jumpy. So, I quickly finished my task for the event before going back to work on our script. Luckily, I had finished it in time before everything could go worse.
