Celebrating World Teacher's Day: A Great Gift for a Great Teacher

Hello, Hivers! It's makiyumee here and I am back again with a new blog! I've been so busy these days that I hardly find the time to write my blogs which is why some of my blogs will be uploaded very late but still, despite the lack of free time, I am going to keep writing because I want to share all my experiences and life happenings to all of you. Today's blog will be about how my classmates and I planned a surprise for our teacher and celebrated world teacher's day with him.

It was around 7 am when I was the first to arrive in our classroom. After I placed my bag on my chair and made sure everything was in order, I decided to go outside and take a look around the campus. As I walked around, I noticed that there were only a few students here and there. But what caught my attention was the covered court—it was already neatly set up for the big event of the day. It was clear that today would be special, as we were about to celebrate Teacher's Day. The decorations and the stage looked ready, and I could already feel the excitement building, even though the campus was still mostly quiet.

I sat down on one of the chairs, waiting patiently for the attendance sheet to be handed out. It’s something we always need to fill out during programs at our school, so I knew it was an important task for the day. As I waited, I watched the covered court slowly fill up with more and more students.

The once quiet place was now buzzing with activity, and the seats were quickly being taken. Little by little, my classmates started to arrive, greeting me as they settled in. I could feel the excitement building as the court became more crowded. Finally, the attendance sheet was passed to us. I quickly found my name, signed it, and made sure everything was in order before heading back to our classroom.

Once all my classmates had arrived, we gathered to start preparing the special gift for our adviser. We had an empty box, manila papers, and the food and drinks we had bought. My classmates and I had planned something fun and silly—we decided to do the popular 'lechon prank' trend we saw on TikTok. Everyone was excited as we worked together, trying to form the food into a shape that looked like a lechon.

It was really hilarious because we were putting in so much effort, carefully wrapping everything with the box and manila papers to make it look real. From a distance, the students who passed by and saw us working on it were clearly surprised. They couldn’t believe their eyes—they thought we were really preparing to give a huge lechon to our adviser. It made the whole experience even funnier, and we could barely contain our laughter as we finished wrapping the "gift."

Shortly after we finished wrapping our gift, the program started, and the emcees introduced the teachers at our university one by one. Every teacher had their own style and entrances—it was both fun and very refreshing because we get to see them not in their usual professional demeanor. After the introduction of the teachers, they showed us the presentation that they had practiced and the whole covered court erupted into howls and cheers as we all chanted the names of the teachers while they danced with all their energy.

After their dance performance, the emcees excitedly announced that it was time for the games they had prepared for the teachers. This was another chance for us to see a different side of our teachers—one that was fun, goofy, and full of energy. I watched in amazement as they eagerly participated in the games, laughing, and enjoying themselves with the students and their fellow teachers. It was such a refreshing sight because we were used to seeing them act so serious, firm, and strict inside the classrooms. But here, during these games, they were just like us—having fun and letting loose. It made me feel happy to witness this side of them, and it brought a warm feeling seeing how much they were enjoying the moment. It was a reminder that even though they are our teachers, they can still be playful and carefree when given the chance.

My classmates and I didn’t get to finish watching the whole program because after the third game, we all decided it was time to head back to our classroom and finalize our plans for the surprise. We knew we had to be organized, so we assigned specific roles to each other—some of us would be in charge of setting up, others would be responsible for getting everything ready, and we also decided on what song we would sing and what we would say to make sure our teacher would feel really happy.

Once we finished planning and everything was clear, we sneakily brought our "lechon" back onto the campus. This was where the surprise was going to happen. We placed the lechon-shaped gift carefully on one of the tables under the tent near the faculty room. Everything was set, so all that was left was for our male classmates, who were given the job to fetch our teacher, to come back with him. We waited excitedly, making sure everything was perfect for the big reveal. There was a sense of excitement in the air as we got ready to surprise our adviser, hoping that all our efforts would pay off.

After a few minutes, we finally saw our adviser walking towards us, and we quickly got ready by turning on the flashlights of our cellphones and hiding the "lechon" behind us. As our adviser got closer, we all started singing "Star ng Pasko" while waving our phones in the air with the flashlights on.

It was very satisfying to see how surprised and genuinely happy our adviser was as we sang with all our hearts. After the song, he told us how happy and speechless he was since that was his first-time celebrating teacher's day and also receiving a gift from his students. We also thanked our adviser for all the things that he did for us and for making us feel honored and blessed to make him feel happy on his teacher's day celebration.
