When I think of Italian movies I think of Italian Mafia first. No one denies the reality of Italian organized crime. But one should remember that every few perpetrators, by definition, need many victims. But the glorification of Mafia creates a different perception about Italian Movies.
We have also discussed a lot on other European movies in earlier sessions.
Before that the theme of #cinetalkies was the Asian cinema where we discussed Indian, Korean and Japanese Movies.
Italian movies, cinema and web-series is our topic of discussion today. Please feel free to add your you-tube links in the comments. One of the famous Italian mafia movies ever made and is largely regarded as one of the best films of all time. This crime film takes place in 1940s New York City, The Godfather tells the story of the mafia family and passing of the family crime business to his son

The Godfather is not the Italian film. It could be argued that it is an Italian American film, but not Italian.

Fellini for me is one of the best directors of all time, and he did the most os his movies in Italy. For shure 8 1/2 its the best one !
It could be argued that Italian cinema history, like Italian history in general, is longer and more colourful than history of some other countries. Italian cinema industry was known for its diversity and various styles, trends and movements through 20th Century. From first historic epics during silent era, to escapist comedies of White Telephones propagated by Fascist regime in 1930s, post-WW2 reaction to it in the form Italian neorealism, than populist comedies of 1950s, peplum (sword & sandals) film of 1960s, followed by spaghetti western, 1970s polizioteschi crime films, giallo thriller/horror films, as well as late 1970s/early 1980s exploitation classics about zombies, cannibals, mercenaries, nuns and barbarians.
La vita è Bella 1997 or Life is Beautiful in English, one of my favourites Italian movie, this one actually moved me alot the first time I watched it. A beautiful story line, great cast and amazing direction, Roberto Benigni Was true highlight of this movie.
