[02/10/2022] Cinetalkies: How French cinema is perceived

"Your Favorite French Cinema"

France has the tendency to produce more cinema than many other countries in the world. A lot of these films have a better chance of being shown internationally than the films produced by most other countries.
Considering France’s long film history, they do put a lot more of an effort into supporting filmmaking in order to prosper in this arena. Ofcourse this is my perspective towards the French cinema.

Netflix’s offering of French films has continued to shrink. I Lost My Body is an adult animated film, increasingly of the kind that, frankly, don’t get produced these days anymore.

Even I have noted that there is no way to identify the french cinema on Netflix. But the french cinema has a long standing history which no one can take away from them not even the whims and fancies of Netflix. Les Enfants du Paradis (1943), La Règle du Jeu (1939), The Passion of Joan of Arc (1927) are some of the historical movies which one should watch to understand the french tradition of movies.

France has a long history of Cinema and I guess the oldest cinema was produced in France. I recently watched a netflix show where they capture a serial killer Guy Georges through the tireless work of two women -- a police chief and a victim's mother.

The Intouchables, Comedy/Drama, very interesting and moving STORY. This film is inspired by the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his French-Moroccan caregiver Abdel Sellou. It set great box office records in France.

As a french my perspective of french cinema is "There are a lot of french movies" :')

I know why there are so much, since we are the country where the cinema was born in we placed a lot of energy to be able to continue making movies here.
When Hollywood started his movies, it took so much place than most of countries in the world has been forced to stop making films.

In France we have a lot of financial support to continue cinema, and some rules to constrain platforms like Netflix to force them to invest some money in French cinema if they want to have more liberties !
