MerMay 2023 ArtPark Edition Week 1

Heyo!

We are almost halfway through May and I'm just starting my MerMay entry. If you haven't known already, @artpark is hosting its own edition of the renowned art challenge, MerMay (check this post). Also, we finally launched the ArtPark Community here on Hive.

The Process

Sketch
Lineart

The prompt for week 1 is Chibi, Bubbles, Bathtub. I had no idea which one to make but when I started sketching, an image of someone in a fetal position inside a bubble suddenly came to mind so I struck while the iron was hot and went on with that.

The sketch part was the easy part. However, when it came to lineart, I was having a hard time. Mostly because I'm still getting used to the brushes I'm using. I'm also training myself to follow and keep my own art process. I always get distracted and start to work on other stuff, like, instead of focusing on the rendering, I start to work on the details.

So the process in trying to follow is sketch, lineart, color draft, base color, rendering, details, and final touch-up.

By the way, this character that I'm drawing is name Euphy and Euphy is the mascot for @artpark. I also drew Euphy last year's MerMay.

Color Draft

I'm surprised that drafting the colors wasn't so hard. I haven't done it much in my past drawings but I decided to do so as it's always been recommended by all of the tutorials I have watched. So yes, if there's anything to learn from this post, it is "DO NOT SKIP COLOR DRAFTING". You're welcome.

Finally the star of this piece. I followed this tutorial on how to render bubbles. It was very easy to follow and I liked the result.

Here's my little not so secret. I only drew the big bubble in the center and copy-pasted the others. Work smart, not hard, they say.

The Final Product

After some more detail rendering and touch-ups, here is the final piece I call "Inside my Bubble".

If you want to practice coloring, I am making the lineart for this illustration available for practice. You can save the lineart image above as it is or download it here. This is for personal use only and please do not erase the watermark. I hope you have fun practicing coloring.

That's it for now.
Remember, creativity is contagious. Pass it on.
Let's be nice to each other. See you at the next one.

Euphy looks so sad ☹️, but, great work! The prompt had me scratching my head, too, as in how to combine these 🤔🤔 lol.

Nice concept! I'm liking the colour scheme real good hehe. You really like purple don't you? Is it because of Gojo😆?

Oh you'll think again when I finish my avatar. It's blindingly red.

Nice hehe! Is that for mermay as well?

Aah, no. I will mainly draw Euphy for MerMay

Ah I see :)
