It was Christmas day as we gathered to celebrate love and life, family and friends. We opened in prayer for the Christians in our midst, because Jesus is why we really celebrate. A Turkish prayer followed after, because God understands every language.
The spread was set before us, behind us and all around us because there simply wasn't enough space for all the food that was present. I cannot list the names as I've consumed those too, but I can remember the ham, oxtail, hummus and tofu. The whole white chicken turned black with legs extended to the sky in contrast to the chicken biryani with spices turned way up. Roast pork, beef patties, not of the Jamaican kind. And don't forget the good ole Christmas cake and rice and peas, Jamaican style. The spices and herbs were all a delight as they tantalised my senses. Each meal represented those who had joined, as hands and hearts celebrated the season, over a game of Political Monopoly. I guess America was represented too.
