Hello, friends and community! Happy Winter and Advent to everyone.

I'd like to share some of my collection of shawls, dupattas, and scarves in response to the challenge given by community leader @mipiano.

I don't often wear items around my neck for some reason, when I use them, I feel uncomfortable. So I use them according to my comfort.

But need to have dupattas all the time whenever go out to the market, temples, or any social places.

Growing up in South India, we didn't need warm clothes because the winter weather was mild. However, I did wear dupattas around my neck or upper body as part of my Indian outfits. They are very handy, just need something to match them. Some of the dresses are worn-out but these dupattas are still good in shape. can be used even after they fade colors.

Since moving to Norway, I've started buying shawls in India and bringing them to Norway as gifts, and even a few exclusive ones for sale, and have collected quite a few.

Initially, I used scarves and shawls around my neck, but in the last few years, I haven't been able to tolerate them. As a result, most of them are now just sitting in my wardrobe. At the moment, I can't take new photos of my collection, but I did manage to take a few pictures when I tried to sell some of them last springtime.

this technique is called Kani Work Pashmina. they are embroided by hand and each one is unique. since they require an enormous amount of work and the work is not well paid there are very few being made nowadays.

the fine embroidery was done by very skilled hands and for that it took almost 6 months, this full size shawl 2 meters in length and 120 cm in width, and the backside was also done perfectly so the embroidery made to last. this is the most expensive one in my collection. I had it on me for a wedding but that was the only time i ever used it..

This is also quality Kani work pashmina but far simpler and more suitable for daily use.

These are normal-size in silk.

My sister-in-law ran a business in the USA through Etsy. She asked me to find some good items from both India and Norway, and I started collecting even more.

During a visit to a flea market, I saw a wide variety of mink and fur scarves. As a Hindu, I do not agree with killing animals for fashion, and I prefer not to use any leather or fur materials. However, when I saw those beautiful scarves, I reflected on the animals that had sacrificed their lives and thought that, at least, someone was valuing them. They were very inexpensive, so I decided to buy them to send to my sister-in-law. But sending by post was so expensive from Norway I decided against sending them. They are still in the box waiting until for us to buy a ticket and go to the USA. they are quite exclusive and won't be kept forever so I may end up giving some away to friends who like to use them.

They don't need ironing I just use one if I go out for example to the market or a temple.
If I were in Norway it would be more fun in cold weather but here now very hot because of the cyclone in south India.
Thank you for stopping by.

Dear @hindavi

This is an awesome collection! Beautiful designs and I didn't know they were called dupattas, but I can clearly imagine you (or me if I would visit one day that country) wearing those in India. Thank you very much for bringing this beautiful collection 🥰

Thank you, dear @mipiano. I'm glad I found something to post that you liked. A traditional outfit isn't complete without this type of dupatta. It helps cover the chest area, ensuring a modest look and avoiding issues that can sometimes occur in India, such as inappropriate attention towards women.
Greetings :)

I liked them a lot, thank you for that explanation. Wishing you a happy week, @hindavi 😇

What beautiful shawls, love the owl one because I am a fan of those feathered ones and also the color and design is very nice 😍

They all have a very striking design and very well elaborated 😊

Thank you very much dear friend @elbuhito I am glad you like it. Greetings :)
