Treasure Island // La Isla del Tesoro [ENG] [ESP]

Good afternoon friends of Hive.
I'm here to tell you about Treasure Island, a wonderful story that captivated me as a youngster.
Who as a child or early teenager did not want to be a pirate to sail the seven seas in search of treasure and adventure? I did not escape that spell and even less when books like Jules Verne's Mysterious Island or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by the same author, or Treasure Island by RL Stevenson, the creator of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, fell into my hands.

Estoy aquí para contar sobre la isla del tesoro, un maravilloso relato que me cautivó de joven.
¿Quién de pequeño o en su temprana adolescencia no quiso ser un o una pirata para surcar los siete mares en busca tesoros y aventuras? Yo no escapé a ese embrujo y menos cuando en mis manos caían libros como la Isla Misteriosa de Julio Verne o 20.000 leguas de viaje submarino del mismo autor, o la Isla del Tesoro RL Stevenson el creador del Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

This is the story of Jim Hawkins who lived with his widowed mother in the inn they ran called Admiral Benbow, and it is there that one day a drunken man who religiously pays for his room shows up and asks Jim to tell him if a one-legged man shows up looking for him.
Jim tells Billy Bones (that's the strange little man's name) that only two men have ever shown up asking for him: a dirty, greasy man the first time and a month later a blind man who called himself Pew.

Esta es la historia de Jim Hawkins que vivía con su madre viuda en la posada que regentaban y que se llamaba Almirante Benbow, y es allí donde un día aparece un hombre borrachín que paga religiosamente su habitación y le pide a Jim que le diga si aparece un hombre con una sola pierna a buscarlo.
Jim le cuenta a Billy Bones (así se llama el extraño hombrecito), que solo han aparecido dos hombres preguntando por él: un hombre sucio y ceboso el primero y un mes después un ciego que se hacía llamar Pew.

Bones dies of a stroke at the inn and it is then that Jim and his mother take the chest with Bones' belongings and find coins from all over the world and a pile of papers among which is a map that supposedly leads to a treasure that belonged to the most bloodthirsty pirate in the Caribbean: Captain Flint.
Thus begins this extraordinary adventure narrated by Stevenson.

Bones muere de una apoplejía en la posada y es entonces cuando Jim y su madre toman el cofre con las pertenencias de Bones y encuentran monedas de todas partes del mundo y un montón de papeles entre los cuales se encuentra un mapa que supuestamente lleva a un tesoro que perteneció al más sanguinario de los piratas en el Caribe: el capitán Flint.
De esta forma comienza esta extraordinaria aventura narrada por Stevenson.

For those who do not know this author, I can tell you that he was a Scotsman, born in Edinburgh in 1850 and due to his physical condition he could only attend school for a short time and then he was educated at home because he suffered from chronic bronchitis when he got a physical improvement he was admitted to public schools in Scotland. When he graduated from them as a lawyer he turned to write, by all accounts (I have not read any) he was an extraordinary essayist.
His father encouraged him at first when he published his first book, but..., there is always a but, it was a failure and Stevenson had to settle for serious work as they said in those days.

Quienes no conozcan a este autor puedo contarles que era un escocés, para más señas, nacido en Edimburgo en 1850 y por su condición física solo pudo asistir a la escuela por muy poco tiempo y luego fue educado en su hogar por sufrir de una bronquitis crónica, cuando obtuvo una mejoría física fue internado en escuelas públicas de Escocia. Cuando egresó de ellas como abogado se dedicó a escribir, según cuentan (no he leído ninguno) era un extraordinario ensayista.
Su padre lo alentó en un principio cuando publicó su primer libro, pero…, siempre hay un pero, este constituyó un fracaso y Stevenson se tuvo que conformar a trabajar de forma seria, como decían en esa época.

On a vacation with his family they went to the Scottish coast and as it was so cold they spent it in the vacation house they decided to start telling stories that they wrote themselves and with which they had fun day by day. One day Stevenson looked at a watercolor of an island that his eldest stepson had painted and was so excited that he gave names to each point he saw and so the watercolor became the Skeleton Island that hid a great treasure.
It is in this way that RL Stevenson began to write what we would know as Treasure Island and that was delivered in installments to a magazine of the time, and believe it or not, its success was minimal, then it was compiled in a single volume as we know it today and was published in 1883, being a great success for RL Stevenson to do so because it became known in various parts of the world and accelerated the appetite of many in the search for treasure and lost cities.

En unas vacaciones que hizo con su familia fueron a la costa escocesa y como esta es tan fría se la pasaban en la casa vacacional, decidieron ponerse a contar cuentos que ellos mismos escribían y con los cuales se divertían día a día. Un buen día, Stevenson miró una acuarela de una isla que había pintado su hijastro mayor y se emocionó tanto que le puso nombres a cada punto que veía y así fue convertida esa acuarela en la Isla Esqueleto que escondía un gran tesoro.
Es de esta forma que RL Stevenson comienza a escribir lo que conoceríamos como la Isla del Tesoro y que fue entregada a plazos a una revista de la época, y aunque ustedes no lo crean, su éxito fue mínimo, luego es recopilada en un solo volumen como lo conocemos hoy en día y fue publicada en 1883, siendo un gran acierto para RL Stevenson hacerlo así, pues se dio a conocer en diversas partes del mundo y aceleró el apetito de muchos en la búsqueda de tesoros y ciudades perdidas.

The characters in this incredible adventure grab us from the beginning, set in the 1700s, it tells a story of pirates, adventures, loyalties, feuds, dramatic denouements, and happy endings.
Jim Hawkins is a fearless, sometimes disobedient, and good-hearted young man who is the narrator of almost the entire novel, and then cedes his role to others.
Long John Silver, as it sounds, in English, because calling him John Silver el Largo sounds very strange to me, is the other part of this story, he manages to assemble a crew to go on the treasure hunt and bring this adventure to an outcome that many do not expect.

Los personajes de esta increíble aventura nos atrapan desde el principio, ambientada en los años 1700, cuenta una historia de piratas, aventuras, lealtades, enemistades, desenlaces dramáticos y finales felices.
Jim Hawkins es un joven intrépido, algunas veces desobediente y de buen corazón, es el narrador de casi toda la novela, y luego cede su papel a otros.
Long John Silver, así como suena, en inglés, porque decirle John Silver el Largo suena muy extraño para mí, es la otra parte de este relato, consigue armar una tripulación para ir en la búsqueda del tesoro y llevar a esta aventura a un desenlace que muchos no se esperan.

Jim Hawkins' mother is the owner of the inn and she only appears in the first chapters of the story because that is what the writer and her family decided, and please, don't criticize, we are talking about customs established more than one hundred and fifty years ago and from that very objective point of view, it should be read.
Then we meet the various secondary characters that play a relevant role in the novel: Dr. Livesey, Mr. Trelawney, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, Captain Smollet, among others, who give a special meaning to this magnificent novel.

La madre de Jim Hawkins es la propietaria de la posada y solo aparece en los primeros capítulos de la historia porque así lo decidió el escritor junto a su familia, y por favor, no lo vayan a criticar, estamos hablando de costumbres establecidas hace mas de ciento cincuenta años y desde ese punto de vista muy objetivo debe ser leído.
Luego nos encontramos con los diversos personajes secundarios que juegan un papel relevante en la novela: el doctor Livesey, el caballero Trelawney, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, el capitán Smollet, entre otros, dan un significado especial a esta magnífica novela.

In my youth it made my day many times to read these adventures, and although I am a woman more than once I went on adventures with my friends to the beach to unearth imaginary treasures. And RL Stevenson was responsible for this, he traveled a lot because of his health condition, and finally, due to tuberculosis, he died of this disease in Samoa at the age of 44, in 1894, where he had established his home with his wife and children. Apart from this brilliant story he also wrote the famous story of Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde, which earned him great recognition for exemplifying the split personality when it was not yet prescribed in psychology, as well as the Black Arrow novel set in the late Middle Ages and where the characters remind us of Robin Hood.

En mi juventud me alegró el día muchas veces leer estas aventuras, y aunque soy mujer mas de una vez me fui de aventuras con mis amigos a la playa a desenterrar tesoros imaginarios. Y RL Stevenson fue responsable de ello, viajó muchísimo a causa de su estado de salud y por último debido a una tuberculosis, falleció a causa de esta enfermedad en Samoa a los 44 años de edad, en 1894, donde había establecido su hogar junto a su esposa y sus hijos. Aparte de esta brillante historia escribió también la famosa historia del Dr Jekill y Mr Hyde, que le valió un gran reconocimiento por ejemplarizar el desdoblamiento de personalidad cuando esta aún no se prescribía en la psicología, y así también como la Flecha Negra novela ambientada en la Baja Edad Media y donde los personajes nos recuerdan a Robin Hood.
