Book Review: The Ibom Pilgrim-walking the Holy Land with Jesus.

The first book I started reading yesterday was the first for this year. As I had promised myself, I would read nothing less than 50 books this year. Surprisingly, despite my busy schedule, I was able to finish this book this morning.

The writer of this book, Imelda Icheji Lawrence, is a lecturer at one of the Nigerian universities. She embarked on a pilgrimage to the land of Israel in the year 2008. She decided to document her 10-day journey in a book, and that's what this book is all about.

I never thought that embarking on a pilgrimage could be this educational until I read this book. The author is so gifted in such a way that she could put down everything as it unfolded. She described her journey from Nigeria, her arrival at the Ben Gurion Airport in Israel and all the sites she visited. The book is so insightful I must say.

This book will be very impactful to Christian brethren who have only heard about many places in the Bible. This book made me believe that those places actually existed and not some form of fairy tales.

As I mentioned earlier, it was a ten-day journey, and the author documented the activities as they occurred in days. For example, day one she focused on her journey from Nigeria, day two focuses on arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, day three she talks about the activities of Good Friday, day four was her visit to the Sea of Galilee and many others.

I have never read a well-documented book on pilgrimage. From what I have discovered from reading the book, the Israeli government's attempt at preserving those places is a good development and it serves as a source of revenue for the government. Imagine about 400 people visiting those places daily and the amount of money they have to pay to access places like the River Jordan, Bethlehem, Mount Sinai and the rest.

Reading this book clears my doubt about the existence of the person called Jesus Christ. So if these places actually exist in reality then Jesus Christ also existed. Mount Sinai, for example, the author told us that it takes 6 hours to climb up and climb down, and you can only do that at night to minimise height phobia. Such a mountain must have been a high mountain that God gave Moses the ten commandments for the Israelites

The book makes believing simple, the narration at some point cuts the picture of cartoons, especially Elisha striking the Jordan and walking across on dry ground with fifty men watching from a distance, very picturesque, like a cartoon, simple for the audience to see, simple diction for every level of readers.

The travelogue is picturesque and tactile. The storytelling is progressive, one item after another in an accretive style, so to speak. See the river Jordan, for example, or from Joshua down to John, and the baptism of Jesus is a quick swipe from the Old to the New Testament. It is an exquisite subtle combination of gentle and soft sermonization and creative art.

From the book, she also draws attention to the beauty of Israel as a nation. A land with beautiful landscapes and architecture.

To say the least, the book is technically finished.

El primer libro que empecé a leer ayer fue el primero de este año. Como me había prometido a mí misma, este año leería nada menos que 50 libros. Sorprendentemente, a pesar de mi apretada agenda, esta mañana he podido terminar este libro.

La autora de este libro, Imelda Icheji Lawrence, es profesora en una de las universidades nigerianas. En 2008, emprendió una peregrinación a la tierra de Israel. Decidió documentar su viaje de 10 días en un libro, y de eso trata esta obra.

Nunca pensé que emprender una peregrinación pudiera ser tan educativo hasta que leí este libro. La autora tiene tanto talento que ha sido capaz de plasmar todo tal y como sucedió. Describe su viaje desde Nigeria, su llegada al aeropuerto Ben Gurión de Israel y todos los lugares que visitó. Debo decir que el libro es muy revelador.

Este libro tendrá un gran impacto en los hermanos cristianos que solo han oído hablar de muchos lugares de la Biblia. Este libro me ha hecho creer que esos lugares realmente existieron y no son una especie de cuentos de hadas.

Como mencioné anteriormente, fue un viaje de diez días, y la autora documentó las actividades tal y como se desarrollaron cada día. Por ejemplo, el primer día se centró en su viaje desde Nigeria, el segundo día se centra en su llegada al aeropuerto Ben Gurión de Israel, el tercer día habla de las actividades del Viernes Santo, el cuarto día fue su visita al mar de Galilea y muchos otros.

Nunca había leído un libro tan bien documentado sobre peregrinaciones. Por lo que he descubierto al leer el libro, el intento del Gobierno israelí de preservar esos lugares es una buena iniciativa y supone una fuente de ingresos para el Gobierno. Imagínese que unas 400 personas visitan esos lugares a diario y la cantidad de dinero que tienen que pagar para acceder a lugares como el río Jordán, Belén, el monte Sinaí y el resto.

La lectura de este libro aclara mis dudas sobre la existencia de la persona llamada Jesucristo. Así que, si estos lugares existen realmente, entonces Jesucristo también existió. El monte Sinaí, por ejemplo, según nos cuenta el autor, se tarda seis horas en subir y bajar, y solo se puede hacer de noche para minimizar el miedo a las alturas. Debía de ser una montaña muy alta para que Dios le diera a Moisés los diez mandamientos para los israelitas.

El libro hace que creer sea sencillo, la narración en algún momento recorta la imagen de los dibujos animados, especialmente cuando Eliseo golpea el Jordán y cruza por tierra firme con cincuenta hombres observando desde la distancia, muy pintoresco, como un dibujo animado, sencillo de ver para el público, Dicción sencilla para lectores de todos los niveles.

El diario de viaje es pintoresco y táctil. La narración es progresiva, un elemento tras otro en un estilo acumulativo, por así decirlo. Véase, por ejemplo, el río Jordán, o desde Josué hasta Juan, y el bautismo de Jesús es un rápido salto del Antiguo al Nuevo Testamento. Es una exquisita y sutil combinación de sermones suaves y creatividad artística.

A partir del libro, también llama la atención sobre la belleza de Israel como nación. Una tierra con hermosos paisajes y arquitectura.

Como mínimo, el libro está técnicamente acabado.
