I started reading late. The first book I really read, without being forced to by school, was when I was 21. The trigger that sparked my interest in books, although some may find it contradictory, came from a TV series. I watched the first season of Game of Thrones and fell in love with the universe. At the time, there was uncertainty about the continuity of the series, so, in a conversation with a friend, he told me that the story was based on the Chronicles of Ice and Fire saga. Much of the narrative had already been written, and I could immerse myself in this world through the books.

Although it was late, it was perhaps the best way to start reading. The Chronicles of Ice and Fire have many characters, and the series I had already watched gave me a basis for understanding the plot. For a beginner, this familiarity helps a lot. I've read all the published books and, like many, I'm still waiting for the sequel (it's been decades since the first one was released). This universe has become one of my favorites and was crucial in turning me into a reader. It also marked the beginning of my passion not only for books, but especially for the genres of medieval fantasy and historical fiction.

After finishing The Chronicles of Ice and Fire, I faced a kind of literary hangover. I wanted to find stories as good as those, something that would help me cope with the wait for the next volumes. So I started exploring other titles. I discovered so many incredible stories: some thrilling, others full of lessons, and several that brought me endless laughter.

It was on this journey that I found my favorite book, The Name of the Wind, and other sagas that I reread two or three times because I didn't want to leave those universes. Prince of Thorns was a completely out-of-the-box experience. Elantris enveloped me in a frightening way. The The Gentleman Bastard Sequence begins in a discreet, almost understated way, but ends with a twist so impactful that I was bewildered as I turned the last page. Since my first book, there have been so many stories that it would be difficult to choose the best, but I can say that it was wonderful to leave my world to explore others.

It was also in this process that I discovered one of my favorite authors, Bernard Cornwell, who is a writer of historical fiction. This means that he takes historical periods and events, creates fictional characters and tells stories with an atmosphere very close to what really happened. His books are a real lesson in knowledge and are a pleasure to read. I started with The Chronicles of Arthur trilogy and haven't stopped since. My favorite saga is The Saxon Chronicles, and the character of Uhtred is unparalleled in every way. What's interesting is that this author's books have a chronological order that goes through different historical periods. At the moment, I'm about to start the Sharpe series. Although I haven't followed this order so far, it might be interesting for those who are just starting out to start from the historical beginnings.

Over the years, I've experienced many stories and met incredible characters. There was a time when I was so immersed in The Saxon Chronicles, especially the theme of the Viking invasion of England, that I even modeled biscuit characters inspired by the series. That was a good time, I think I had a lot more time than I do now. Now, I've brought some photos of my book collection and some of the characters I made are in the set. This is also my participation in the HiveBR Photo Contest #12 - Books I hope you enjoy!

Eu comecei a ler tarde. Assisti à primeira temporada de Game of Thrones e me apaixonei por aquele universo.

Assim, comecei a explorar outros títulos.

No momento, estou prestes a iniciar a série Sharpe.

I feel many of us go through the same experiences with reading, once you're no longer forced to read for school or education purposes and we can find enjoyment in our own avnues (mine for example is post-apocalyptic, I don't know why but the world building and survival in these genre of books always captivates me!)

I always did want to attempt getting into the Game of Thrones series for a better understanding of the storyline outside of the show, seems the directors made a lot of bad errors with how they decides to portray the events that unfold in the book.

I'm glad they allowed you to find your favourite author!

The first season is very faithful to the book, but after that, many things go off track. However, that's normal, it must be quite challenging to maintain fidelity since they are different mediums for portraying a story. But it's worth giving the story a chance, it's amazing.

I also really like post-apocalyptic themes, but I've never read a book with that theme. I would appreciate some recommendations!

I definitely should, knowing majority of the story kind of makes for an more interesting read, to see the true paths the characters I like set out upon without being killed off by the tv directors 😂

my favourite for the apocalypse genre is the "Metro" series by Dmitry Glukhovsky! the books became so popular they got adapted into Video games also, even funner to play them!

A Roadside Picnic is another that inspired a lot of similar works of fiction, also "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy is one of my all time favourites, it sets the world so fantastically!

You too!

It's not important when you start reading but that you discover the beauty of reading, I was lucky I started to read at young age, I read honesty since I remember, but my mom introduced me to literature and books when I was a child so I loved many books in my childhood and in the teenage years I read even more, actually I like too reading but different genres . Ps: I loved GOT. ❤️

What a blessing it is to have someone in your life to encourage reading. Unfortunately, I came from a humble family that didn’t have much awareness about fostering this habit. But better late than never, haha! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment!

It's okay if you're late reading, but the most important thing is that you stick to this good habit.
