Callum Hunt not only lives in a world where magic exists, but he himself is a magician, being able to use it for as long as he can remember, although the occasions when he has used it have been the product of poor control. And how could they not? His father, Alastair Hunt, hates everything to do with magic. He has good reason for that, and above all, for wishing Call would not go to that place known as the Magisterium, a secret school where the magic of the elements is studied.

It is because of this dislike that he tells his son to fail the college entrance exam, and although Call tries, he ends up failing. He gets a place at the Magisterium, where he will have to stay for even the first year and then decide whether he wants to continue attending or drop out, forgetting about being a magician altogether.

This book is aimed at a children's audience, although it contains certain chapters where the motivations of some characters seem aimed at a more adult audience, as well as some "delicate" events. There is a lot of creativity behind its pages, something that is not surprising, since there were two authors in charge of creating this world. Although at first it seemed a bit forced to me, I ended up getting used to it.

Este libro está dirigido a un público infantil, aunque contiene ciertos capítulos donde las motivaciones de algunos personajes parecen dirigidas a un público más adulto, al igual que algunos sucesos «delicados». Hay mucha creatividad tras sus páginas, algo que no es de sorprender, ya que fueron dos las autoras encargadas de crear este mundo. Aunque en un principio me pareció un poco forzado, terminé por acostumbrarme.

The prologue of this story is short and simple, it shows us a little piece of Call's most remote past, but it has a powerful effect and it is that it left me with a thorn of curiosity stuck. Wanting to get it out was that I devoured the book, but guess what? Instead of appeasing my curiosity, clarifying the questions and giving me a clearer view of things, it was quite the opposite, it left me with a tangle of questions and no answers, which grew as the book ends and I finished the next ones.

El prólogo de esta historia es corto y sencillo, nos muestra un pedacito del más remoto pasado de Call, pero tiene un efecto potente y es que me dejó con una espina de curiosidad clavada. Queriendo sacarla fue que devoré el libro, ¿pero adivina qué? En vez de apaciguar mi curiosidad, aclarar las interrogantes y darme una visión más clara de las cosas, fue todo lo contrario, me dejó con una maraña de interrogantes y nada de respuestas, que se fue acrecentando a medida que acaba el libro y terminaba los siguientes.

So yes, the first book is a death trap and the others are tasked with reinforcing that trap catches curious like me. I needed to know how the authors were going to develop that plot, what answers they would offer to clear up all the suspicions they hinted at and certainties they told. I wanted surprises, so I took a chance even though there was a risk of finding disappointments.

Así que sí, el primer libro es una trampa mortal y los otros son los encargados de reforzar esa trampa atrapa curiosos como yo. Necesitaba saber cómo las autoras iban a desarrollar esa trama, qué respuestas ofrecerían para aclarar todas las sospechas que insinuaron y certezas que contaron. Quería sorpresas, así que me arriesgué pese a que existía el riesgo de encontrar decepciones.

It is true that at first I started reading this book somewhat skeptical, I had doubts and a feeling that something did not end up convincing me, fit me. I felt that I continued only because I wanted to find out the mysteries and secrets of this story, to know how it was going to develop as it progressed, but I did not count that I would end up getting fond of the characters, which made me want to accompany them until the end.

Es cierto que al principio comencé a leer este libro algo escéptica, tenía dudas y una sensación de que algo no terminaba por convencerme, encajarme. Sentía que continuaba únicamente porque quería averiguar los misterios y secretos de esta historia, para saber cómo iba a desarrollarse conforme avanzaba, pero no contaba con que terminaría por cogerles cariño a los personajes, lo que me hizo querer acompañarlos hasta el final.

The Iron Test is the first book of five that complete this saga written by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black. It is where we are introduced to the main and secondary characters that appear throughout the story or most of it; where they tell us how this magical world works and instruct us in some terms referring to magic and alchemy; we are immersed in secrets and mysteries that have to do with the past, present and future of wizards.

La prueba de hierro es el primer libro de cinco que completan esta saga escrita por Cassandra Clare y Holly Black. Es donde nos presentan a los personajes principales y secundarios que aparecen durante toda la historia o la mayor parte de ella; donde nos cuentan cómo funciona este mundo mágico y nos instruyen en algunos términos referentes a la magia y la alquimia; nos inmiscuyen en secretos y misterios que tienen que ver con el pasado, el presente y el futuro de los magos.

In this first book we meet Callum Hunt, his life and his personality. He is a troubled, moody, sarcastic and insecure boy. I could say a myriad of flaws about him, but it's those things that make him a somewhat more real and less perfect character, which I liked, although he has his qualities and virtues as well.

En este primer libro conocemos a Callum Hunt, su vida y su personalidad. Es un chico problemático, malhumorado, sarcástico e inseguro. Podría decir un sinfín de defectos acerca de él, pero son esas cosas lo que lo hace un personaje algo más real y menos perfecto, cosa que me agradó, aunque también tiene sus cualidades y virtudes.

From being a boy with no friends he goes on to find two who become important to him - Tamara and Aaron. Together they begin to learn about magic while also learning about friendship, personal relationships, values and living together, loyalty and trust. They lean on each other and together they believe they are capable of facing anything, which they do, as this book is full of adventure and action.

De ser un niño sin amigos pasa a encontrar dos que se vuelven importantes para él: Tamara y Aaron. Juntos empiezan a aprender de magia mientras aprenden también sobre la amistad, las relaciones personales, los valores y la convivencia, la lealtad y la confianza. Se apoyan los unos en los otros y juntos se creen capaces de enfrentar cualquier cosa, algo que hacen, ya que este libro está lleno de aventuras y acción.

It is a book that combines intrigue and adventure, comedy and drama, action and reflection, the everyday and the unusual. It has a little bit of everything. Honestly there were things that didn't convince me, I didn't like or came to annoy me, but I guess more of the good things I got out of this story predominated, since I ended up reading all the books. Despite everything I didn't like, it's an interesting, enjoyable and entertaining story, I feel like there were things that could have been deleted or improved, but all in all I wasn't disappointed, which is the important thing.

Es un libro que combina la intriga y la aventura, la comedia y el drama, la acción y la reflexión, lo cotidiano y lo inusual. Tiene de todo un poco. Sinceramente hubo cosas que no me convencieron, no me gustaron o llegaron a molestarme, pero supongo que predominaron más las cosas buenas que conseguí en esta historia, ya que terminé por leer todos los libros. Pese a todo lo que no me gustó, es una historia interesante, agradable y entretenida, siento que hubo cosas que pudieron suprimirse o mejorarse, pero en definitiva no me decepcionó, que es lo importante.
