El día de hoy quiero compartirles una de mis lecturas de este año de la cual no tuve oportunidad de hablar en su momento “The Mixtape” o “Eres mi canción favorita” en su traducción oficial a español, una historia sobre las perdidas, la familia, el romance, y la música. Comencemos!
Today I want to share with you one of my reads this year that I didn't have a chance to talk about at the time "The Mixtape" or "Eres mi canción favorita" in its official Spanish translation, a story about loss, family, romance, and music. Let's get started!
Cuando el hermano de Oliver fallece durante un accidente, la depresión y la culpa lo consumen por completo, sin saber cómo lidiar con su carrera musical sin su hermano a su lado y encontrándose cada vez más perdido con sus emociones, Oliver parece haber llegado a un punto de no retorno en su vida
Emery es una madre soltera quien está luchando con poder llegar a final de mes, a pesar de tener un trabajo en el que apenas gana lo suficiente para mantener a su hija y no recibir ningún apoyo de su familia, ella es una persona que nunca pierde las esperanzas en el mañana y la música ha sido su más grande ayuda. Cuando Oliver y Emery cruzan caminos, ambos encontraran apoyo en el otro y juntos harán frente a las dificultades que atormentan sus vidas.
When Oliver's brother dies during an accident, depression and guilt consume him completely, not knowing how to deal with his music career without his brother by his side and finding himself increasingly lost with his emotions, Oliver seems to have reached a point of no return in his life.
Emery is a single mother who is struggling to make ends meet, despite having a job that barely earns enough to support her daughter and no support from her family, she is a person who never loses hope for tomorrow and music has been her greatest help. When Oliver and Emery cross paths, both will find support in each other and together they will face the difficulties that plague their lives.

Alex y Oliver son dos hermanos que comparten algo más que su apariencia en común, y es su amor por la música, por lo que deciden formar un grupo musical que con el tiempo se vuelve más y más aclamado por el público, ambos son el complemento perfecto del otro, Alex es el chico carismático y extrovertido que se gana el corazón de la gente con su personalidad, y Oliver es el joven calmado e introvertido que conquista a las personas con su trabajo. Todo parece ir bien sus vidas y sus carreras hasta que un accidente cambia el panorama por completo, Alex muere y con ello Oliver ha perdido a su otra mitad; desde ese momento la vida de Oliver va en picada, la culpa lo consume por dentro y simplemente no saber qué hacer sin su mejor amigo a su lado, a pesar de intentar superarlo con el tiempo siempre retrocede al último momento, y sus problemas lo están consumiendo vivo
Emery es una joven madre soltera luchando por darle una buena vida a su hija, a pesar de la circunstancias difícilmente se ponen a su favor, ella nunca se da por vencida y siempre intenta mostrar su mejor cara a las personas en su entorno, su vida cambia por completo cuando, durante una jornada de trabajo, se encuentra cara a cara con su cantante favorito, Oliver Smith, aunque no de la manera en que uno se esperaría, Emery ayuda a Oliver a salir de una situación complicada y le da un lugar donde quedarse mientras el está pasando por un mal momento, a partir de ese breve encuentro sus vidas cambian para siempre
Emery es despedida de su trabajo y Oliver quiere recompensar a Emery por haberlo ayudado, si bien Emery se niega firmemente al comienzo, termina cediendo y en el camino, Oliver le ofrecerá un trabajo a Emery, sus interacciones día a día se vuelven más cotidianas y ambos aprenden a apoyarse mutuamente en el camino.
Alex and Oliver are two brothers who share something more than their appearance in common, and that is their love for music, so they decide to form a musical group that over time becomes more and more acclaimed by the public, both are the perfect complement to each other, Alex is the charismatic and outgoing guy who wins the hearts of people with his personality, and Oliver is the calm and introverted young man who conquers people with his work. Everything seems to be going well in their lives and careers until an accident changes the picture completely, Alex dies and with that Oliver has lost his other half; from that moment on Oliver's life goes downhill, the guilt consumes him inside and he simply doesn't know what to do without his best friend by his side, despite trying to overcome it with time he always regresses at the last moment, and his problems are consuming him alive.
Emery is a young single mother struggling to give her daughter a good life, even though circumstances are hardly in her favor, she never gives up and always tries to show her best face to the people around her, her life changes completely when, during a work day, she comes face to face with her favorite singer, Oliver Smith, although not in the way one would expect, Emery helps Oliver out of a complicated situation and gives him a place to stay while he is going through a hard time, from that brief encounter their lives are changed forever.
Emery is fired from his job and Oliver wants to reward Emery for helping him, although Emery firmly refuses at first, she eventually gives in and along the way, Oliver will offer Emery a job, their day to day interactions become more everyday and they both learn to support each other along the way.
“The Mixtape” o “Eres mi canción favorita” en su traducción al español, es una historia que se va intercambiando entre el punto de vista de Emery y el de Oliver. Mientras que con Emery veíamos su día a día junto a su hija, su personalidad y principios bien definidos, y su esperanza constante en la vida a pesar de sus luchas para llegar a fin de mes sin deudas, con Oliver podíamos adentrarnos más en lleno en su mente, conocer todas sus batallas internas y comprender las situaciones por las que atravesaba, de esta manera ambos puntos de vista se complementan entre si.
Ahora si bien tanto Emery y Oliver son los protagonistas de esta historia, siento que al final fue Oliver quien tuvo la mayor evolución de personaje, si bien con Emery podemos ver una progreso más ligero e incluso su propio “arco” con un conflicto más elaborado y entretenido llegando a las ultimas partes del libro, fue Oliver con quien desde un principio pude ver un cambio más obvio e interesante, lo que me hizo apreciar genuinamente el desenlace de dicho personaje. También siento que la elección de personajes secundarios fue interesante, a pesar de haber pasado un tiempo desde que leí el libro puedo recordar con claridad a los personajes no principales que conformaron esta historia, desde aquellos agradables hasta los que tuvieron un rol más antagónico.
"The Mixtape" or "Eres mi canción favorita" in its Spanish translation, is a story that switches back and forth between Emery's and Oliver's point of view. While with Emery we saw his day to day life with his daughter, his well defined personality and principles, and his constant hope in life despite his struggles to make ends meet without debt, with Oliver we could go deeper into his mind, know all his internal battles and understand the situations he was going through, in this way both points of view complement each other.
Now although both Emery and Oliver are the main characters of this story, I feel that in the end it was Oliver who had the most evolution of character, although with Emery we can see a lighter progress and even his own "arc" with a more elaborate and entertaining conflict reaching the last parts of the book, it was Oliver with whom from the beginning I could see a more obvious and interesting change, which made me genuinely appreciate the outcome of that character. I also feel that the choice of secondary characters was interesting, even though it has been a while since I read the book I can clearly remember the non-main characters that made up this story, from those who were likable to those who had a more antagonistic role.
Es un libro de romance, pero difícilmente me encontré emocionada por las interacciones entre Emery y Oliver, y es que si bien siento que su encuentro al comienzo estaba lleno de potencial, realmente no pude ver la química desarrollarse entre ellos en sus interacciones posteriores, hasta el punto de que el resto de temas que esta historia toco (Asuntos más complicados y complejos como el abuso emocional, la depresión…) opacaron fácilmente lo romántico de la historia
En términos generales fue una lectura promedio, pienso que a la narración le falto una pequeña “Pulida”, pues hubieron detalles algo molestos aquí y allá, sobre todo al comienzo de la historia, pues llegue a sentir la narración algo repetitiva y el uso de metáforas (Cosas como “el sol siempre sale después de la lluvia”) de Emery para describir su vida resultaron un poco irritantes para mi gusto, también considere algunos de los conflictos (Sobre todo aquellos que ver con el aspecto “romántico”) innecesariamente complicados (Y en general simplemente innecesarios.)
It's a romance book, but I hardly found myself excited about the interactions between Emery and Oliver, and while I feel that their meeting at the beginning was full of potential, I really couldn't see the chemistry develop between them in their later interactions, to the point that the other issues that this story touches on (more complicated and complex issues like emotional abuse, depression...) easily overshadowed the romance of the story.
Overall it was an average read, I think the narration lacked a little "polish", as there were some annoying details here and there, especially at the beginning of the story, as I came to feel the narration somewhat repetitive and Emery's use of metaphors (Things like "the sun always rises after the rain") to describe his life were a bit irritating to my taste, I also considered some of the conflicts (Especially those to do with the "romantic" aspect) unnecessarily complicated (And in general simply unnecessary.)
Es mi primera vez leyendo a esta autora, Brittainy Cherry, y por ahora, siento que se mantendrá como la única lectura de mi parte a una de sus obras. “The Mixtape” fue un libro que me leí con relativa facilidad, sobre todo porque los libros relacionados con la música y famosos siempre pican mi curiosidad, no fue mi mejor lectura de este año, pero creo que fue lo suficientemente buena para recordar sus puntos más fuertes. This is my first time reading this author, Brittainy Cherry, and for now, I feel like it will remain my only reading of one of her works. "The Mixtape" was a book that I read with relative ease, mostly because music and celebrity related books always pique my curiosity, it wasn't my best read this year, but I think it was good enough to remember the strongest points. Por momento lo consideré un libro que podría ayudar a muchas personas en cuanto a la superación de algún ser querido tan cercano, el hecho de ver como Emery y Oliver, se arman de valor para continuar sus vidas de la mejor manera, lo hace un libro interesante para mí, aunque puede que tenga otro punto de vista si decido leerlo. Por ello, debo expresarte que con ver tu reseña siento que estaría interesante para mí, ya que es mi género de libro.

A pesar de que el romance de Emery y Oliver deja bastante que desear para mis estándares, creo que es un libro que aborda bien el tema de la superación, ver como los protagonistas se enfrentan y superan sus problemas hicieron de esta historia una experiencia agradable de leer.
