Falling Through the Weaving

My book baby is out in the world!

My latest novel, Falling Through the Weaving, was seven years in the making, and I’m so happy to share it with you!

This was the first novel I wrote, which means I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. I've learned so much from this story. It has undergone so many rewrites and edits I lost count of how many drafts I went through, but I’m thrilled with what it has become!

Falling Through the Weaving

For fans of Outlander and The Time Traveler’s Wife:

A time-traveling musician breaks all her rules for three men who share the same soul, and plunges so far into the past that dragons still exist.

Reviews for Falling Through the Weaving:

“Wow what an incredible ride! Talon has the timeless voice of a classic, undying author. From beginning to end, the writing was masterful. The artistry of it was intoxicating, each page a new brushstroke against the canvas of not just one life, but many across time. I really felt like I was living it with her.” — Amazon Reviewer

“This book is sweet and steamy with a dreamy vibe that will suck you in. Talon is a master of eloquent narration and has tied together a blend of subgenres in a way that makes them feel like they belong together. Like cowboys? How about Scottish Lords? Maybe you prefer Norsemen. Dragons? Blend Outlander and Game of Thrones with a few cowboys and gods and you’ll almost capture the essence. Falling Through the Weaving has something for every romance reader.” — author Elysia Lumen Strife

“For anyone searching for a truly epic love story packed with action, adventure, self-discovery, and sexiness, Falling Through the Weaving DELIVERS... There is so much satisfaction packed into this story, which offers fun and lighthearted romps interspersed with deeper philosophical questions on love, destiny, and attachment. Something for everyone. The world does not always supply big answers to the big questions posed, yet magic comes in the revelations accrued from smaller, yet more transformative, moments. A spellbinding, genre-bending delight for fans of romance and fantasy alike." — author Kat Turner

Riding the Waves of Creativity.

I’ve published four books now, and I seem to hit burnout every time I have a new release.

On the flip side, I have long stretches of intense creativity where I pour myself into my writing. I love it. I have so many stories, and shaping them into something worth publishing is a long journey, but it’s worth it.

I’ve made peace with the ups and downs of my process. When inspiration is flowing, I write. When I hit burnout, I give myself permission to not write. Which is why it’s taken me so long to blog about my book on Hive. I just couldn’t push anymore.

And here I am taking baby steps toward productivity again. It’s a cycle.

Balance comes from self-care, and part of that has been playing guitar. I got out my 12-string yesterday and played it for hours. It felt so good!

Here's one of my other books (published as @katrina-ariel) pictured with my 12-string:

What’s next?

So, what’s next in my writing world?

I’m taking a break before diving into revisions of Dragons in the Weaving, the sequel to Falling. Book two of the Roots and Stars series brings more magic, gods, and dragons into the mix, and it’s such a fun story, but I want to approach it with a fresh perspective, which means giving myself time.

Lately, I’ve been having a ton of fun adapting my novels into screenplays. It’s a whole new format of writing to explore, and something I’ve wanted to do since I read James Cameron’s Terminator 2 screenplay in grade eight.

Pressing pause on writing novels also gives me a chance to look at how much I’ve accomplished thus far, rather than always being focused on the next thing. I’ve published two novels, one non-fiction book, and a collection of poetry and short stories.

Here are all my published book babies in one go… Aren’t they lovely?

I couldn't do this alone...

Though writing is often a solitary endeavour, no writer gets through it alone.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to all of the friends who have stuck with me. Sometimes, I’m bubbly and present. Sometimes, I disappear for long stretches of time while I pour my soul into my creations.

I haven’t forgotten you, and want you to know how much I appreciate every bit of encouragement I’ve received along the way, whether that was this year, last year, or years ago.

As an artist, the highs of creativity are like flying, and the lows are devastating. Knowing there are people who believe in me makes all the difference in the world.

I hope you’re doing well, wherever you are.

Whatever happens, keep singing your song!
Peace @LeiaTalon / @katrina-ariel

Congratulations! 😊

I’ve made peace with the ups and downs of my process. When inspiration is flowing, I write. When I hit burnout, I give myself permission to not write.

I love this. I'm the same but I'm not quite at peace with it yet, instead I feel guilty when going through the downs. That's so great that you understand yourself and have made peace with your personal process!

I hope your newly published book does well! 💃

Thanks so much! As for the ups and downs, having the perspective of years doing this has helped a lot. I've learned to go with it, to remember it's a cycle, and to give myself the time and self-care I need to bounce back. Go easy on yourself. You've probably heard this before, but publishing is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes self-kindness to stick with it for the long haul. 😊

Wooop woooop! I am sure you must feel really exhausted now! You did it ^^ I can't wait to read all your work! I also told my wife about it and she was really interested in your latest plot.

Much love!

Aw, thanks so much for the encouragement and sharing my book news with your wife! I am a little exhausted. But I'm also proud and inspired to work on other things while I get around to summoning the courage to edit book 2. Love right back at'cha! 💖

Book 2 on its way?

YES! I'm working on a bunch of other projects, but hoping to get Book 2 out for late 2021 or early 2022. :)

That's also very inspiring! is there a chance you'd sell your books on google books?

Thank you! I'm so glad you find it inspiring. :)

My books are currently available on most channels, but not Google books at the moment. I'll have to look into that.

It would be great if you can list it on Google books. Congrats on your launch once again.

Congratulations! This is such a great feat.

Thanks so much for helping me celebrate! 💖

Thank you, what a nice blog and I am sure books are amazing. I think I'm gonna read them.

Thank you for reading. :)

Congratulations! That's very exciting. Rest well after your long journey to completion. You will know when the time is right to get back to writing.

Thanks so much! And you're right, rest is the thing for now. It's never fun to force the writing, but I do love it when I'm in the moment and swept up in my stories. 💖

Congratulations on your book lunch!

Thank you! 💖💖💖

Wow, this sounds so intriguing. For a guy who is not so much into romance & fantasy, I am very tempted to go and buy your book :)

Some great reviews, congrats.

Yet first of all, congrats on being honest and telling us about what a rollercoaster ride being an author is. We mundane people without the necessary imagination and skills can't begin to fathom what it must be like when you feel the rush of ideas shaping place and being born and reborn.

Reblogged, of course. And thanks for being here on Hive with us.

What a kind comment, thank you! I appreciate the congrats and encouragement.

I think all artists ride the ebbs and flows of creative fire, but it's easy to forget that when looking at the end product. It's definitely a process. 💖

You are always welcome :)

Yes, in the end, you remember the good times and as yourself how can you learn from the bad times :)

Have a great weekend.

BTW, I decided to buy an ebook. I am a paper book guy yet it would take too much time to have it shipped all the way from the US to Slovenia. It's three weeks at least. Not to mention the shipping costs.

Can you tell us at what store you get the most out of it? If it isn't a secret. I know that authors don't get much out of a sold copy, alas. I am leaning toward bol.de ...

How wonderful! And yes, remember the good times and learn from the rest.

My sales per book vary depending on the retailer, but not all that much, so please feel free to purchase from whatever retailer is easiest for you. I am working on having the paperback available in more regions, too, but it takes time. And the eBook works just as well. ;) Thanks so much for supporting me as an author! 💖

Looking forward to reading it love, glad you finished it and are pleased with your work. I have 3 of the 4 up there! Also super cool to hear you pulled out the guitar and took a breather - was gettin' a little worried. 😇😍🤗

Aw, thank you!!! I hope you enjoy the story. And, yes, it is so good to be playing music again. 🤗💖🤗
