[ENG-ESP] 📚✨ Book Review: Reckless (with spoilers for Powerless) 🏹🗡️

Hello Hello Community! ✨, in the last book review I brought you (which I feel was a long time ago 🙃), I shared with you my opinion about the first book of the Powerless trilogy, which has the same name, and its complementary story Powerful, there I detailed how it had been the whole experience of making a shared reading between two stories that narrated the same fact, and as for me these two books were really one (or so my head registered it 🤣), today I will talk about the second book of this trilogy, and how was my journey between considering it better than the previous one, until I end up rating it the same way, so today I share with you my opinion about Reckless 🏹🗡️.

The King of Ilya is dead, or rather he has been killed, and after the arrival of the Resistance to the last test of The Purge, everything turned into chaos and the plans that this group had ended in a great massacre, however despite all this disaster Paedyn managed to survive, although with a completely broken heart after the death of her best friend, and now clinging even more strongly to the hatred she already felt towards a person: The King, so when he threatens her life and leaves a lifelong mark on her chest, she doesn't hesitate to kill him, **even if this now makes her the main target of the person she fell in love with 💔. **

With the King dead, Kitt must now take his place on the throne, and that also means that Kai must swear absolute loyalty to his new King and brother, even though it breaks his heart, because now he must fulfill his duties as Executioner and hunt down the silver-haired girl who has murdered the King, the same girl he is in love with 💔, now both must fight against each other, forget the love that arose between them and face the harsh reality that surrounds them, a reality where *she is a murderer and he is her executioner. *

If there is one thing that characterises this book it is two things, the first is the turbulent romance that develops throughout the story, and the second is the suffering that accompanies that romance, because for both Paedyn and Kai this struggle that they must carry on against each other is excruciatingly painful, and challenges their integrity and loyalty, Kai's loyalty to his brother and new King, and Paedyn's loyalty to herself and her convictions, yet all this struggle also leads them to reflect on their own shadows, on their own goodness and evil, and above all, for me, it leads them to strengthen the love they feel for each other, because when their lives are in danger, neither of them thinks twice about saving it.

Now, something that I generally appreciate about sagas or trilogies, is when the events of a book begin immediately after what happened at the end of the previous book, an element that I highlighted in the review of The King's Chains, and that I also highlight here, and I personally like it because I feel that they allow you to connect at once with the events that narrate one book and the other. I also love to highlight when the books are narrated by both protagonists, especially because in this case it allows you to understand what it is that guides Kai in this struggle against his own feelings, and why he doesn't falter at any point in the possibility of letting Paedyn go free, and I feel that nurtures his character a lot. However, a third narration is incorporated in this book and that is Kitt's, and I won't deny that when I finished the book I felt it was a most unnecessary addition, but now on reflection, I realise that it was just poorly executed 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Paedyn continues to be one of my favourite female protagonists, I love that strength she has and that feisty spirit, few things break her and she is definitely not a damsel in distress, even though the author sometimes wants to paint her that way. From the first book I said it and I stand by it, she is the perfect complement to Kai and vice versa, they are both characters who are very emotionally broken and in this book it is explored in a magnificent way, especially the emotional trauma of seeing all your loved ones die is explored in great depth, The way this is reflected in Paedyn is incredible and how all the little traces of this burden lead the story to a particular scene where she can't take it anymore and breaks down in front of Kai, something she doesn't allow herself to do until that moment.

Kai on the other hand is still my literary love of the moment 🤣, I love that in this book we get all the kisses we didn't get in the first one, and how each one of them carries a different meaning that helps us understand how their relationship is rebuilt, something I love about Kai is that he never underestimates Paedyn and knows for sure what she is capable of. He's a character with a very strong sense of loyalty, in fact I'd say the whole story is sustained by this, and it's something we see from many perspectives, not only shown in his relationship with Kitt, but with other characters including his dad.

If there is something that Lauren Roberts plays with a lot in this story, it is with the duality of paternities, on the one hand we have Kai's father, who only seeks perfection and in his eagerness to achieve it mistreats his two children, one through physical violence and emotional abuse, and the other through contempt and, I would say, comparison with others. While on the other hand we have Paedyn's father, who used his time and knowledge to train his daughter for survival, from love and understanding, turning her into a warrior. Even so, and under this duality, both fathers keep painful secrets, which although they are not of the same calibre, are equally shocking for their children, as they completely change the way in which they have seen their own actions and their own conceptions of life.

But if there is someone who finds himself in the middle of secrets he doesn't understand, it's Kitt, now assuming the reins of a kingdom when he's not even able to see life without his father's presence in it, under what I sense is a great web of betrayal and plot, and this is why at first I mentioned that although at the beginning I didn't like his incorporation in the narrative, later I understood that it was necessary, it was just poorly executed, not only does it allow you to empathise with the character, but it gives you a view of what the story seems to be hiding and where the events seem to be pointing, however its poor execution makes his point of view feel bland and unimportant, and there comes a point where you don't understand what you're dealing with, whether you're dealing with a villain or just someone who's being manipulated.

Overall the story has some flaws, it is certainly more entertaining than Powerless, or at least it kept me more hooked, but it loses a lot of fantasy 🤷🏻‍♀️, that is to say for me it was a completely romantic book to which they added fantasy sparingly and not to leave, also in some parts the story feels a bit slow and like they wanted to add too many things, besides I don't understand how the characters didn't bleed to death 🤣, if what happened was that they were wounded and they didn't even have thread to stitch, everything was fixed with water 🤣.

Besides this, another flaw it has is how predictable it is, which in some cases is not serious and it doesn't really matter, but here the "plot twists" are seen coming from long before and because the author herself through the dialogues lets them be seen 🤷🏻‍♀️, besides some of them feel quite forced, like they don't fit with the narrative that was brought and just make the book, at least for me, lose that that made it stand out more than Powerless, there is only one plot twist that caught me by surprise, even though it had already been shown before in a conversation, I thought the plot twist would go somewhere else 🤣, but it was the only one.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, en la última reseña de libro que les traje (que siento que fue hace muchísimo tiempo 🙃), les compartí mi opinión sobre el primer libro de la trilogía Powerless, el cual lleva el mismo nombre, y su historia complementaria Powerful, allí les detallé cómo había sido toda la experiencia de hacer una lectura compartida entre dos historias que narraban el mismo hecho, y como para mí éstos dos libros realmente eran uno solo (o así lo registró mi cabeza 🤣), pues el día de hoy les hablaré sobre el segundo libro de ésta trilogía, y de cómo fue mi viaje entre considerarlo mejor que el anterior, hasta terminar puntuandolo de la misma forma, así que hoy les comparto mi opinión sobre Reckless 🏹🗡️.

El rey de Ilya ha muerto, o mejor dicho lo han asesinado, y es que tras la llegada de la Resistencia a la última prueba de La Purga, todo resultó en caos y los planes que éste grupo tenían acabaron en una gran masacre, sin embargo a pesar de todo éste desastre Paedyn logró sobrevivir, aunque con el corazón completamente destrozado tras la muerte de su mejor amiga, y ahora aferrándose con más fuerza al odio que ya sentía hacía una persona: El Rey, por lo que cuando éste amenaza su vida y le deja una marca de por vida en el pecho, ella no duda en matarlo, aunque ahora ésto la convierta en el objetivo principal de la persona de la cual se enamoró 💔.

Con el Rey muerto, ahora Kitt debe tomar su lugar en el trono, y eso también significa que Kai debe jurar absoluta lealtad a su nuevo Rey y hermano, aunque ésto le rompa el corazón, porque ahora debe cumplir sus funciones de Ejecutor y perseguir a la chica de cabello plateado que ha asesinado al Rey, la misma chica de la cual está enamorado 💔, ahora ambos deben luchar el uno contra el otro, olvidar el amor que surgió entre ellos y enfrentarse a la dura realidad que los arropa, una realidad donde ella es una asesina y él su verdugo.

Si hay algo que caracteriza a éste libro son dos cosas, la primera es el romance turbulento que se desarrolla a lo largo de la historia, y segundo el sufrimiento que acompaña ese romance, porque tanto para Paedyn como para Kai ésta lucha que deben llevar en contra del otro, es insoportablemente dolorosa, y desafía muchísimo la integridad y lealtad de ambos, en Kai la lealtad a su hermano y nuevo Rey, y en Paedyn la lealtad hacía ella misma y sus convicciones, sin embargo toda ésta lucha también los lleva a reflexionar sobre sus propias sombras, sobre su propia bondad y maldad, de sobre todo para mí, los lleva a afianzar el amor que sienten por el otro, porque cuando sus vidas peligran, ninguno de los dos lo piensa dos veces para salvarlo.

Ahora bien, algo que en general aprecio de las sagas o trilogías, es cuando los hechos de un libro comienzan inmediatamente después de lo ocurrido en el final del libro anterior, elemento que destaqué en la reseña de Las Cadenas del Rey, y que destaco aquí también, y personalmente me gusta porque siento que te permiten conectar de una vez con los acontecimientos que narra un libro y otro. Además también me encanta destacar cuando los libros se encuentran narrados por ambos protagonistas, sobre todo porque en éste caso te permite entender qué es lo que guía a Kai en ésta lucha contra sus propios sentimientos, y porqué no flaquea en ningún momento ante la posibilidad de dejar en libertad a Paedyn, y eso siento que nutre mucho a su personaje. No obstante, en éste libro se incorpora una tercera narración y es la de Kitt, y no lo voy a negar cuando terminé el libro sentí que era una incorporación de lo más innecesaria, pero ahora que lo reflexiono mejor, me doy cuenta que solo estuvo mal ejecutada 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Paedyn sigue siendo de mis protagonistas femeninas favoritas, me encanta esa fortaleza que tiene y ese espíritu tan aguerrido, pocas cosas la quiebran y definitivamente no es una damisela en apuros, pese a que la autora a veces la quiere pintar así. Desde el primer libro lo dije y lo mantengo, ella es el complemento perfecto de Kai y viceversa, ambos son personajes que están muy rotos emocionalmente y en éste libro se explora de una manera magnífica, sobre todo se profundiza mucho en el trauma emocional que genera ver morir a todos tus seres queridos, así como tu propia capacidad para quitarle la vida a alguien, la forma en cómo se refleja ésto en Paedyn es increíble y como todos los pequeños rastros de ésta carga conducen la historia hasta una escena en particular donde ella ya no soporta más y se quiebra delante de Kai, cosa que ella misma no se permite hasta ese momento.

Kai por otra parte sigue siendo mi amor literario del momento 🤣, me encanta que en éste libro nos dan todos los besos que no nos dieron en el primero, y como cada uno de ellos lleva un significado distinto que nos ayuda a entender cómo se reconstruye la relación de ellos dos, algo que me encanta de Kai es que en ningún momento subestima a Paedyn y sabe con total certeza de lo que ella es capaz. Es un personaje con un sentido de la lealtad bastante marcado, de hecho yo diría que toda la historia se sostiene gracias a ésto, y es algo que vemos desde muchas perspectivas, no solo se demuestra en su relación con Kitt, sino con otros personajes incluyendo su papá.

Si hay algo con lo que Lauren Roberts juega mucho en ésta historia, es con la dualidad de paternidades, por un lado tenemos al papá de Kai, quién solo busca la perfección y en ese afán de conseguirla maltrata a sus dos hijos, a uno a través de la violencia física y el maltrato emocional, y al otros desde el menosprecio y yo diría que la comparación con otros. Mientras que por otro lado tenemos al papá de Paedyn, quien dispuso de su tiempo y conocimiento para entrenar a su hija para la sobrevivencia, desde el amor y la comprensión, convirtiéndola en una guerrera. Aún así, y bajo ésta dualidad, ambos padres guardan secretos dolorosos, que aunque no son del mismo calibre, para sus hijos son igual de impactantes, pues cambia por completo la forma en cómo éstos han visto sus propios actos y sus propias concepciones de vida.

Pero si hay alguien que se encuentra en medio de secretos que no llega a comprender, ese es Kitt, ahora asumiendo las riendas de un reino cuando ni siquiera es capaz de ver la vida sin la presencia de su padre en ella, bajo lo que yo intuyo es una gran red de traiciones y complot, y es por ésto que al principio mencionó que aunque al inicio no me gustó su incorporación en la narrativa, luego entendí que sí era necesario, solo que estuvo mal ejecutada, no solo te permite empatizar con el personaje, sino que te da una vista de lo que parece que esconde la historia y hacía donde parece que apuntan los hechos, sin embargo su mal ejecución hace que su punto de vista se sienta soso y sin importancia, y llega un punto donde no entiendes a qué te estás enfrentando, si ante la presencia de un villano o simplemente de alguien a quien están manipulando.

En general la historia tiene algunos fallos, ciertamente es más entretenida que Powerless, o al menos a mi me mantuvo más enganchada, pero se pierde muchísimo la fantasía 🤷🏻‍♀️, o sea para mí fue un libro completamente romántico al que le agregaron fantasía escasamente y por no dejar, además en algunas partes se siente un poco lenta la historia y como que le quisieron meter muchas cosas, aparte no entiendo como los personajes no murieron desangrados 🤣, si lo que más pasaba era que se herían y no tenían ni hilo para suturar, todo lo arreglaban con agua 🤣.

Además de ésto, otro fallo que tiene es lo predecible que resulta, que eso en algunos casos no es grave y realmente ni importancia tiene, pero aquí los “giros de trama” se ven venir desde mucho antes y porque las misma autora a través de los diálogos los deja ver 🤷🏻‍♀️, aparte que algunos se sienten bastante forzados, como que no encajan con la narrativa que se traía y solo hacen que el libro, al menos para mí, perdiera eso que lo hacía destacar más que Powerless, solo hay un plot twist que me agarró de sorpresa, pese a que ya lo habían dejado ver antes en una conversación, yo pensé que el giro de trama iría por otro lado 🤣, pero fue el único.
