Hello everyone, my reader friends, I hope you are doing great... today I want to share with you my opinions about a new book, it is a story that has been recommended to me a lot, and it is a Pulitzer prize winning book. So, starting it was like entering a room where everyone is waiting for something very special... I had read excellent reviews of this story, so I decided to give it a chance, so today I will tell you about the novel: The Old Man and the Sea, by the author Ernest Hemingway... it really doesn't disappoint at all.

This short novel is a master class in simplicity, but it offers a unique emotional impact that stays with you long after you have finished the last page.. let's start with the main character, Santiago, he is an old Cuban fisherman who hasn't caught a single fish in 84 days.. what an ugly run of bad luck haha, he has become the laughing stock of his village.. but he doesn't sink into self pity, instead he dreams big... and when I say big, it's really big, despite his bad luck, Santiago is still hopeful.. this is just what makes him so identifiable, he's not just fighting for a fish, he's fighting for his dignity.. and a sense that gives him purpose.

We also have his former apprentice.. who is like that friend who believes in you, even when the odds are against you.. their bond is understated but touching, and honestly, I wish there was more of that in the story.... Speaking a bit about the plot.. I consider that yes, it's pretty straightforward, Santiago decides to go out to sea on day 85, determined to break his streak...what follows is an epic battle between man and nature. This author's writing is very direct.. and you really feel like you are right there with the protagonist, holding the fishing pole and feeling all the salty air on your face, it's not just about catching a fish.. but it's a story that encompasses struggle, effort.. and what it means to persevere even when the odds are stacked against you. Santiago's inner monologue and musings, about bad luck, his dreams of lions on African beaches, and some of his meditations, add a lot of depth to his character...without feeling overdone at any point.

Hola a todos, amigos lectores, espero que estén súper bien.. hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mis opiniones sobre un nuevo libro, es una historia que me han recomendado bastante, y es un libro ganador del premio Pulitzer. Así que, empezarlo fue como entrar a una habitación donde todos esperan que algo muy especial.. yo había leído excelentes reseñas de esta historia, así que decidí darle la oportunidad, así que hoy les hablaré de la novela: The Old Man and the Sea, del autor Ernest Hemingway.. la verdad no decepciona para nada.

Esta novela corta es una clase magistral de simplicidad, pero ofrece un impacto emocional único que permanece mucho tiempo en ti, después de haber terminado la última página.. comencemos por el protagonista, Santiago, es un viejo pescador cubano que no ha atrapado un solo pez en 84 días.. vaya racha más fea de mala suerte jaja, él se ha convertido en el hazmerreír de su aldea.. pero él no se hunde en la autocompasión, en lugar de eso, sueña en grande.. y cuando digo grande, es realmente grande, a pesar de su mala suerte, Santiago sigue siendo esperanzador.. esto es justo lo que lo hace tan identificable, no está luchando solo por un pez, sino que está luchando por su dignidad.. y un sentido que le da propósito.

También tenemos a su antiguo aprendiz.. que es como ese amigo que cree en ti, incluso cuando las posibilidades están en tu contra.. su vínculo es discreto pero conmovedor, y honestamente, desearía que hubiera más de eso en la historia.. Hablando un poco de la trama.. considero que sí, es bastante sencilla, Santiago decide salir al mar en el día 85, decidido a romper su racha.. lo que sigue es una batalla épica entre el hombre y la naturaleza. La escritura de este autor es muy directa.. y realmente sientes que estás ahí con el protagonista, sujetando la caña de pescar y sintiendo todo el aire salado en el rostro, no se trata solo de atrapar un pez.. sino que es una historia que abarca la lucha, el esfuerzo.. y lo que significa perseverar incluso cuando las probabilidades te están en tu contra. El monólogo interior de Santiago y sus reflexiones, sobre la mala suerte, sus sueños con leones en playas africanas, y algunas de sus meditaciones, añaden mucha profundidad a su personaje.. sin sentirse exagerados en ningún momento.

Now, talking a bit more about the themes that this story encompasses.. one of the ones that resonates the most is the fact that it's not always about winning, it's about trying, this story embraces the struggle itself and how sometimes the effort is the reward itself. Santiago's journey is both inspiring and thoughtful.. even when he loses sometimes, he is not really defeated because he has shown incredible resilience, and as long as he doesn't give up, he considers that he hasn't lost at all.. it is a message that will resonate strongly with anyone who has fought for something they believe in, only to feel that they fell a little short. Some might call this a self-help book in disguise, and I really wouldn't completely disagree, but it's motivational without feeling preachy and I found that amazing.

The writing style might not be to everyone's taste, that said, I feel the author's minimalist approach is both his strength and his weakness.. on one hand, it's refreshing to read something so clean and unadorned, on the other hand, there were times when I wanted so much more.. descriptions, emotions, connections, for example, Santiago's relationship with the boy.. it's touching, but it's very under explored, I kept constantly waiting for a scene that really developed their bond much more, but this never came. And then there's the pacing.. although the book is short and easy to read, the long stretches of Santiago's struggle with this fish can feel repetitive to some extent.. the author's decision to have Santiago constantly talking to himself, or even to the fish, helps break up the monotony a bit, but it's not always enough. Still, these moments of dialogue give us a deeper glimpse into Santiago's psyche...and it's often where the great author's writing shines the brightest.

Ahora, hablando un poco más sobre los temas que abarca esta historia.. uno de los que más resuena es el hecho que no siempre se trata de ganar, sino de intentarlo, esta historia abarca la lucha en sí misma y de cómo a veces el esfuerzo es la propia recompensa. El viaje de Santiago es tanto inspirador como reflexivo.. incluso cuando pierde algunas veces, no está realmente derrotado porque ha demostrado una resistencia increíble, y mientras no se rinda, él considera que no ha perdido del todo.. es un mensaje que resonará fuertemente en cualquiera que haya luchado por algo en lo que cree, solo para sentir que se quedó un poco corto. Algunos podrían llamar a esto un libro de autoyuda disfrazado, y realmente no estaría completamente en desacuerdo, pero es un motivador sin sentirse sermoneador y eso me pareció increíble.

El estilo de escritura podría no ser del gusto de todos, eso sí, siento que el enfoque minimalista del autor es tanto su fortaleza como su debilidad.. por un lado, es refrescante leer algo tan limpio y sin adornos, por otro lado, hubo momentos en los que quería muchas más cosas.. descripciones, emociones, conexiones, por ejemplo, la relación de Santiago con el muchacho.. es conmovedora, pero está muy poco explorado, seguía esperando constantemente una escena que realmente desarrollara mucho más su vínculo, pero esto nunca llegó. Y luego está el ritmo.. aunque el libro es corto y fácil de leer, los largos tramos de la lucha de Santiago con este pez pueden sentirse repetitivos hasta cierto punto.. la decisión del autor de hacer que Santiago hable consigo mismo constantemente, o incluso con el pez, ayuda a romper un poco la monotonía, pero no siempre es suficiente. Aun así, estos momentos de diálogo nos dan un vistazo más profundo a la psique de Santiago.. y a menudo es donde la escritura del gran autor brilla con mucha más fuerza.

One thing I really appreciated here was the realism, Santiago at no point is he considered or portrayed as an out of the ordinary hero...he's just an elderly man doing the best he can. His aches and pains, his moments of doubt and his quiet determination make him feel incredibly real, for anyone who has lived with a stubborn senior citizen, you know exactly what it feels like when these types of gentlemen find something and just won't let go.. this realism gives the story a universal and unique appeal, you don't have to be an angler to understand what Santiago is going through.. we have all faced our own versions of this big fish. So who would really enjoy this book? I reckon that if you like short but meaningful reads, this one is for you.

It's perfect for all those readers who want a good story of reflection and perseverance and for those looking to reflect, it's great because at no point does it make you feel overwhelmed. However, if you are someone who needs constant or fast paced action or is fascinated by richly detailed settings, well you might find this work a bit lacking...in the end, I personally give this novel a 4.5 /5 star rating. It is a brilliantly written story about resilience and hope, but obviously it is not in front of flaws, simplicity is both its greatest strength and its greatest limitation.. still, I consider it a book that can stay with you a lot and that is very worthwhile in my opinion, if you haven't read it yet, please give me a chance.. and well, that would be all for today.. Una cosa que realmente aprecié aquí fue el realismo, Santiago en ningún momento se considera o se retrata como un héroe fuera de lo común.. es sólo un hombre de avanzada edad haciendo lo mejor que puede. Sus dolores y molestias, sus momentos de duda y su determinación silenciosa lo hacen sentir increíblemente real, para cualquier persona que haya vivido con un adulto mayor obstinado, sabe perfectamente lo que se siente cuando este tipo de señores encuentran algo y simplemente no lo dejan ir.. este realismo le da a la historia un atractivo universal y único, no tienes que ser pescador para entender por lo que está pasando Santiago.. todos hemos enfrentado nuestras propias versiones de este gran pez. Entonces, ¿quién realmente disfrutaría este libro? Considero que si a ti te gustan los lecturas que son cortas pero llenas de significado, esta es para ti.

Es perfecta para todos aquellos lectores que quieran una buena historia de reflexión y perseverancia y para aquellos que buscan reflexionar, es genial porque en ningún momento hace que te sientas abrumado. Sin embargo, si eres alguien que necesita una acción constante o rápida o les fascina los escenarios ricamente detallados, pues podrías encontrar esta obra un poco escasa.. al final, yo personalmente le doy a esta novela una calificación de 4.5 /5 estrellas. Es un relato brillantemente escrito sobre la resistencia y la esperanza, pero obviamente no está enfrente de defectos, la simplicidad es tanto su mayor fortaleza como su mayor limitación.. aun así, considero que es un libro que puede quedarse mucho contigo y eso vale mucho la pena en mi opinión, si aún no lo han leído, por favor, denme una oportunidad.. y bueno, esto sería todo por hoy.. espero que hayan disfrutado mucho esta reseña.. nos vemos en las próximas.
