Hello to all reading lovers, I hope you are feeling great today... this time I want to share with you my opinions about a somewhat interesting read. Today I will talk about the novel Beach Read, by Emily Henry. A novel that grabbed me and did it in a way that I didn't expect it, really... I think if you are looking for a summer read (or to dream about summer, if you are in another season, haha) this book is for you. The story follows January Andrews, a romance writer who is going through a bit of a nasty creative block after the death of her father. She's looking for inspiration and a quiet place to heal, so she ends up moving temporarily to a beach house she inherited. What she didn't expect was to run into her neighbor, Augustus, a fiction writer she knows very well, as she had a strange rivalry with him in college.

What starts out as a somewhat strained relationship between two writers with completely opposite styles turns into something deeper when they make a bet. Each will attempt to write a book in the other's genre.... January will be challenged to write a more serious novel, while Augustus will have to create a romantic comedy...this story is much more than just a comedy between writers and rivals who fall in love. I think the author manages to create a plot that has a good deal of emotional depth, and explores interesting themes such as grief, loss of innocence and all the complexity of family relationships. The way in which the theme of how we idealize our parents a little and the way we deal with reality is interesting, little by little we realize that they are imperfect human beings like any other. I think the way it conveys this is unique, I found it especially touching and I didn't expect it at all.

Hola a todos amantes de la lectura, espero que se encuentran genial en el día de hoy.. en esta ocasión les quiero compartir mis opiniones sobre una lectura un tanto interesante. Hoy les hablaré de la novela Beach Read, de Emily Henry. Una novela que me atrapó y que lo hizo de una manera que no me la esperaba, la verdad.. creo que si están buscando una lectura para leer durante el verano (o para soñar con el verano, si están en otra estación, jaja) este libro es para ustedes. La historia sigue a January Andrews, una escritora de novelas románticas que está pasando por cierto bloqueo creativo algo feo, después de la muerte de su padre. Ella anda buscando inspiración y un lugar tranquilo donde poder sanar, por lo que termina mudándose temporalmente a una casa de playa que heredó. Lo que no esperaba era encontrarse con su vecino, Augustus, un escritor de ficción que ella conoce muy bien, ya que tuvo una rivalidad extraña con él en la universidad.

Lo que comienza como una relación un poco tensa entre dos escritores con estilos completamente opuestos, se transforma en algo más profundo cuando hacen una apuesta. Cada uno intentará escribir un libro en el género del otro.. January se enfrentará al desafío de escribir una novela más seria, mientras que Augustus tendrá que crear una comedia romántica.. esta historia es mucho más que una simple comedia entre escritores y rivales que se enamoran. Creo que la autora logra crear una trama que tiene una buena dosis de profundidad emocional, y que explora temas interesantes como el duelo, la pérdida de la inocencia y toda la complejidad de las relaciones familiares. La forma en la que se aborda el tema de cómo idealizamos un poco a nuestros padres y la manera en la que tratamos con la realidad es interesante, poco a poco nos damos cuenta que ellos son seres humanos imperfectos como cualquier otro. Creo que la manera de transmitir esto es única, me pareció especialmente conmovedora y no me lo esperaba para nada.

One of the things I liked most about this book is how it strikes an interesting balance between humor and all the drama...there are hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud at some point, but there are also scenes that left me with a little lump in my throat. The chemistry between January and Gus is good, their dialogues are somewhat sparkling, and at times a pleasure to read, the author also does a great job exploring the world of writing and the prejudices that exist between different literary genres. I loved how she addresses the idea that literary fiction is somehow “superior” to commercial or romantic fiction, or at least that's how some writers feel. The message that there are no right or wrong readers - right or wrong writers is refreshing and I feel it is much needed.

The secondary characters also shine in this novel, the town book club and friends of the main characters bring diversity and depth to the story, creating a more welcoming environment that made me wish I could visit this small coastal town. While the premise of this story may sound a bit light, it really knows how to tackle deep themes such as forgiveness, disappointment and authenticity. The way these past experiences are explored and how they are important in shaping our view of the world is powerful. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by this book... I was expecting a lighter read, but I got a story with some level of emotion and very moving. It can really make you reflect on your own relationships and expectations...obviously there are romantic and racy moments, some racy, but there is also a lot of emotional depth...and this to me is a plus to all of the above.

Una de las cosas que más me gustaron de este libro es cómo se logra un equilibrio interesante entre el humor y todo el drama.. hay momentos hilarantes que me hicieron reír en voz alta en algún momento, pero también hay escenas que me dejaron con un pequeño nudo en la garganta. La química entre January y Gus es buena, sus diálogos son algo chispiantes, y en algunas ocasiones da placer leerlos, la autora también hace un gran trabajo explorando el mundo de la escritura y los prejuicios que existen entre diferentes géneros literarios. Me encantó cómo aborda la idea de que la ficción literaria es de alguna manera "superior" a la ficción comercial o romántica, o al menos eso es lo que sienten algunos escritores. El mensaje de que no hay lectores - escritores correctos o incorrectos es refrescante y considero que es muy necesario.

Los personajes secundarios también brillan en esta novela, el club de lectura del pueblo y los amigos de los protagonistas aportan diversidad y profundidad a la historia, creando un entorno más acogedor que me hizo desear poder visitar este pequeño pueblo costero. Aunque la premisa de esta historia pueda sonar un poco ligera, realmente sabe abordar temas profundos como el perdón, la decepción y la autenticidad. La forma en la que se exploran estas experiencias pasadas y cómo son importantes para moldear nuestra visión del mundo es impactante. Debo admitir que este libro me sorprendió gratamente.. esperaba una lectura más ligera, pero obtuve una historia con cierto nivel de emoción y muy conmovedora. Realmente puede hacerlos reflexionar sobre sus propias relaciones y expectativas.. obviamente hay momentos románticos y picantes, algunos subidos de tono, pero también hay mucha profundidad emocional.. y esto para mí es un plus a todo lo anterior.

As for some of the criticisms, I really had a hard time finding anything negative. I think some readers will probably feel that certain plot twists are a bit predictable, and that's true. But, for me specifically, the execution was so good that I didn't really put much stock in it.. but it may also depend on the mood you read these books in, at least I read them a few months ago and they were in a good time, so maybe I wasn't too analytical.... I think Beach Read is a gem that combines romance, humor and drama in an uneven but good way...it's the kind of book that makes you laugh and reflect, all at the same time.

The author's prose is snappy and motivational, as I'm sure some of you already know, and her characters feel real, surely, as you read on, you can connect with them to the point where you feel like you know them.... If you're looking for a quiet read that might bring a smile to your face, then look no further. I give it a 4.2/5. It's an interesting read, and if you like enemies to lovers romance, you will surely be satisfied. See you in the next reviews, take care, bye bye.

En cuanto a algunas críticas, realmente me fue difícil encontrar algo negativo. Creo que algunos lectores seguramente sentirán que ciertos giros de trama son un poco predecibles, y es la verdad. Pero, para mí en específico, la ejecución fue tan buena que en realidad no le puse mucha importancia.. pero también puede depender del estado de ánimo con el que leas estos libros, por lo menos yo los leí hace algunos meses y estaban en un buen momento, así que tal vez no estaba demasiado analítico.. Creo que Beach Read es una joya que combina romance, humor y drama de una manera irregular pero buena.. es el tipo de libro que te hace reír y reflexionar, todo al mismo tiempo.

La prosa de la autora es ágil y motivadora, como seguramente algunos de ustedes ya saben, y sus personajes se sienten reales, seguramente, conforme vayan leyendo, pueden conectar con ellos al punto de sentir que los conocen.. Si buscan una lectura tranquila que tal vez les dé una sonrisa, pues no busquen más. Yo le doy de calificación un 4.2/5. Es una lectura interesante, y si les gusta el romance de enemies to lovers, seguramente quedan satisfechos. Nos vemos en las próximas reseñas, cuídense mucho, bye bye.
