I inherited a large collection of science fiction books from my father. As I read each one I'll be posting my thoughts without spoilers.

Mutineers Moon by David Webber
My rating 7.5/10

This book is one of my favorites. The concept behind Dahak (the space ship that is the moon) and the story arc is one of the most unique stories I've read in a long time. By the end of this story you'll be dying to know what is going to happen to Colin and his big bronze buddy. If you enjoy space opera or adventures I'd highly recommend you give it a read.

Things I like

  • great plot
  • Dahak's humor is witty and fun
  • technology seamlessly integrated

Things I don't like

  • characters with annoying accents

There are 3 more books in this series so I'll probably read those next..

Sort:

I tend to avoid writing dialogue with an accent. I do find that it looks a bit plain, and sometimes writing, "Allo' there, pleased tah meet'cha!" Seems more colourful, I'd just rather write plain and describe how the character speaks.

The GOT series has a lot of colourful accents, but I sometimes found myself re-reading things just to fully understand what someone was saying. Not that it was bad, because I do love those books.

The worst thing about this book is the one character who speaks 17th century English. There is a plot reason, but it's definitely a bit overplayed.
