Joining books with our own stories
Llegué a este espacio hace más de seis meses porque cuando recibí la primera invitación para formar parte del club, @arlettemsalase compartía el proyecto con alguien más. Luego comenzó el Grupo de Telegram en donde hay varios integrantes de la comunidad de Hive, hay otras personas que han llegado por Goodreads o por una plataforma de educación en línea de la cual formamos parte.
Actualmente hemos leído un libro por mes , nos felicito por ello debido a que en su mayoría compartimos el gusto por la lectura con muchas tareas diarias y el compromiso que se ha tenido para culminar cada libro, sinceramente me alegra el corazón. Me gustaría hacerte breves comentarios de cada uno de los libros que hemos leído hasta ahora:
I came to this space more than six months ago because when I received the first invitation to join the club, @arlettemsalase shared this project with someone else. Then started the Telegram group where there are several members of the Hive community, there are other people who have come through Good reads or through an online education platform of which we are part.
Currently we have read a book per month, I congratulate us for this because most of us share the love of reading with many daily tasks and the commitment that has been taken to finish each book sincerely gladdens my heart. I would like to give you a brief review of each of the books we have read so far:
Enero-Febrero: Cien años de soledad, Gabriel García Márquez
Decidimos comenzar el año con un clásico, la recomendación que resultó más votada fue esta. Sabemos que es una obra maestra de la literatura así que nos emocionaba bastante, varios de los que participaban en la discusión de los martes, comentaban que la habían leído hace varios años atrás, en su mayoría la leyeron en bachillerato o instituto.
Me gustó que un lector compartió el árbol genealógico de los Buendía porque su libro en físico lo traía entre las primeras páginas, en varias ocasiones comparamos la situación que estaba viviendo esa familia con anécdotas cercanas o circunstancias que se viven en cualquier otro poblado, encontrábamos similitudes o diferencias y eso nos ayudó mucho a adentrarnos en ésta historia de realismo mágico.
Recuerdo con mucha simpatía que en algún momento, quedamos en ver “Encanto” un día. En esa ocasión no pudimos coincidir pero si nos tomamos el tiempo para conversar brevemente sobre algunos detalles de la novela que encontramos en la película .
Quiero compartirte también el capítulo de un podcast que estoy escuchando en donde narran que se extravió la primera edición de "Cien años de soledad", de nada más y nada menos, que de la feria del libro de Bogotá. Me resultó muy entretenido escucharlo además que ese capítulo llegó a mi justo en los días que leíamos esta obra.
Recomendación: Podcast Radio Ambulante , En este pueblo no hay ladrones.
January-February: One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel García Márquez
We decided to start the year with a classic, the recommendation that received the most votes was this one. We know it is a literary masterpiece so we were quite excited, several of those who participated in the Tuesday discussion commented that they had read it several years ago, most of them read it in high school.
I liked that one reader shared the family tree of the Buendía family because his book had it among the first pages, on several occasions we compared the situation that the family was living with nearby anecdotes or circumstances that are lived in any other town, we found similarities or differences and that helped us a lot to delve into this story of magical realism.
I remember with much sympathy that at some point, we arranged to see "Encanto" one day. On that occasion we could not coincide but we did take the time to talk briefly about some details of this novel that we found in the film.
I also want to share with you the chapter of a podcast I'm listening to where they narrate that the first edition of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" was lost, from nothing more and nothing less than the Bogota Book Fair. I found it very entertaining to listen to it and that chapter came to me just in the days that we were reading this work.

1era mitad Marzo: Muerte en el Nilo, Agatha Christie
Luego de leer sobre realismo mágico pensamos en cambiar la trama a algo de misterio. Entonces, una lectora propuso leer a Agatha, que es una especialista en el género policiaco.
Si hasta ahora, no le has dado una oportunidad, te comento que desde el comienzo te adelanta quién ha sido asesinada así que pasas toda la lectura indagando cómo pasó, quién lo hizo y cuáles podían ser sus motivos. Hércules Poirot es el personaje detectivesco que permanece en las novelas de nuestra autora. Él acá se encuentra de vacaciones y después de tanto trabajo, el crimen le sigue persiguiendo así que una vez más, es quien nos acompaña a desentrañar toda la trama.
La lectura resultó ligera y bastante entretenida, el hecho de saber que hay un asesinato por descubrir, te mantiene pendiente de todos los personajes y las circunstancias. Cabe destacar, el final de la novela no me lo esperaba, lo cual fue una grata sorpresa y ha resultado ser uno de mis favoritos hasta ahora.

1st half March: Death on the Nile, Agatha Christie
After reading about magical realism we thought about changing the plot to something of a mystery. Then, a reader suggested reading Agatha, who is a specialist in the crime genre.
If you haven't given her a chance so far, I can tell you that from the very beginning she gives you a preview of who has been murdered so you spend the whole reading investigating how it happened, who did it and what their motives might be. Hercule Poirot is the detective character that remains in the novels of our author. Here he is on vacation and after so much work, the crime continues to haunt him, so once again, he is the one who accompanies us to unravel the whole plot.
The reading was light and quite entertaining, the fact of knowing that there is a murder to be discovered, keeps you aware of all the characters and circumstances. It should be noted, the ending of the novel I was not expecting, which was a pleasant surprise and has turned out to be one of my favorites so far.
Recommendation: Book Review: Death on the Nile | From Book to Film
2 da mitad Marzo: Como agua para chocolate, Laura Esquivel.
Recordarás que en Marzo estábamos con el mes de la mujer, por eso decidimos leer esta novela. Una vez más, caímos en el realismo mágico y si buscas la sinopsis podría parecerte que es otra novela rosa. Déjame decirte que no es el caso, la trama ciertamente tiene mucho romanticismo pero también nos gustó que cuente con personajes muy bien estructurados.
Tuvimos que adentrarnos un poco al contexto histórico de México para la época y en ello podemos resaltar que son mujeres con mucho carácter lo cual particularmente me encantó.
Cuando revises los capítulos, te darás cuenta que cada uno lleva por nombre un plato de la comida Mexicana. Nuestra protagonista Tita es una excelente cocinera y a través de su talento culinario, nos va narrando distintos episodios importantes de su vida.
Sinceramente me gustó muchísimo que cada receta simbolizara alguna emoción específica de la protagonista y que la autora comparte los acontecimientos con un detalle que te permite imaginar todo lo que ahí describe. Si aún no lo percibes, este ha sido mi segunda lectura favorita.
Como dato adicional, te comento que esta obra tiene una película cuyo guión lo escribió la autora de la novela.Entonces, si te animas podrías ver la película luego de leer la novela.
2nd half of March: Like Water for Chocolate, Laura Esquivel
You may remember that in March we were with women's month, so we decided to read this novel. Once again, we fell into magical realism and if you look up the synopsis it might seem to you that it's just another pink novel. Let me tell you that is not the case, the plot certainly has a lot of romance but we also liked that it features very well structured characters.
We had to delve a bit into the historical context of Mexico at the time and we can highlight that they are women with a lot of character, which I particularly loved.
When you review the chapters, you will notice that each one is named after a Mexican food dish. Our protagonist Tita is an excellent cook and through her culinary talent, she narrates different important episodes of her life.
Honestly, I really liked that each recipe symbolizes a specific emotion of the protagonist and that the author shares the events with a detail that allows you to imagine everything she describes there. If you haven't noticed yet, this has been my second favorite read.
As an additional fact, this book has a movie whose screenplay was written by the author of the novel, so if you want to see the movie after reading the novel.
Abril: El Perfume, Patrick Süskind
Llegamos a Abril y comenzamos a leer El Perfume, en el grupo habían varios lectores que ya lo habían comenzado a leer pero en aquel momento no les interesó o habían visto la película sin leer el libro. En su mayoría, aceptamos el reto, le quitamos el polvo y dijimos: “¡Bien, leamos esto!”.
En este libro decidimos comenzar a leer en grupo diariamente mediante una llamada por Telegram. En lo particular, he disfrutado muchísimo formar parte del Club de lectura pero estos momentos me encantan. Por si te lo preguntas, comenzamos leyendo a las 9pm hora Venezuela, en el grupo de Telegram hay lectores de distintos lugares del mundo (agradecemos esa diversidad) y a veces, nos complicamos con eso de los horarios.
Hay unos días donde entran más y otros donde entran menos pero te puedo garantizar que aunque solo estemos dos personas, vamos a leer. Retomando el tema de la novela, ha sido de las lecturas menos elogiadas ¿podemos decirlo así? Hay momentos donde la narración te resulta muy interesante porque describe detalladamente como Jean-Baptiste percibe el mundo mediante su olfato pero también eso que juega a su favor, en algún punto se torna monótono y aburrido.
Recuerdo que la noche anterior a la discusión del grupo amanecí leyendo con un alma noble que aceptó continuar hasta que lo termináramos y sinceramente lo hicimos por compromiso con el Club porque ya estábamos algo aburridas. Aún así te comento una opinión personal, ciertamente nos dijimos: “Ya entendemos porque no lo habían terminado”. Al culminar las lecturas, coordinamos para una conversación final y dar introducción al nuevo libro, en la relacionada con El Perfume, una lectora nos dijo que del 0 al 10, ella raspaba la novela porque no le había gustado. En cambio, a nuestra querida @ninaeatshere si le entretuvo de comienzo a fin. Si lo leíste o piensas leerlo, coméntame, ¿te gustó?
April: Perfume, Patrick Süskind
We got to April and started reading The Perfume, in the group there were several readers who had already started reading it but at the time were not interested or had seen the movie without reading the book. For the most part, we accepted the challenge, dusted it off and said, "Okay, let's read this!"
For this book, we decided to start reading as a group daily via a Telegram call. Personally, I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the book club but these moments delight me. In case you are wondering, we start reading at 9pm Venezuela time, in the Telegram group there are readers from different parts of the world (we appreciate that diversity) and sometimes, we get complicated with the schedules.
There are some days when there are more and others when there are less, but I can guarantee that even if there are only two of us, we are going to read. Returning to the subject of the novel, it has been one of the least praised readings, can we say so? There are moments where the narrative is very interesting because it describes in detail how Jean-Baptiste perceives the world through his sense of smell but also that which plays in its favor, at some point it becomes monotonous and boring.
I remember the night before the group discussion I woke up reading with a noble soul who agreed to continue until we finished it and honestly we did it out of commitment to the Club because we were already a bit bored. Even so, I will tell you a personal opinion, we certainly said to ourselves: "We understand why they had not finished it". At the end of the readings, we coordinated for a final conversation and introduction to the new book, in the one related to Perfume, a reader told us that from 0 to 10, she scraped the novel because she didn't like it. On the other hand, our dear @ninaeatshere was entertained from beginning to end. If you read it or plan to read it, let me know, did you like it?
Mayo: Maleficio, Stephen King
El autor de esta novela como bien sabemos es muy reconocido por obras de terror. Hasta ahora, yo no había leído absolutamente nada de él. De hecho, creo que hasta le he huido a películas basadas en sus novelas porque no son mi temática favorita. Entonces, acá di el salto de fe porque si todos estaban de acuerdo en leerlo, ¿Cómo me iba a oponer?
Para que te hagas a la idea, Billy Halleck es un abogado que arrolló a una mujer gitana, quien fallece y debido a ese asesinato él además de otros miembros de la historia resultan malditos. La maldición de Billy fue pronunciada por un viejo gitano que le dijo, “más delgado”.
Billy comienza la historia con sobrepeso, te narra el proceso del juicio, el apoyo que recibió, la relación con quienes le ayudaron y quienes le juzgaron. Se siente culpable y narra muy bien como enfrenta las consecuencias de sus actos. Fue otra novela que leímos en conjunto desde el comienzo y solo por enterarnos de qué pasaba con el gitano o de qué pasaba con los otros personajes, nos mantuvimos ahí pendiente.
La novela cuenta con una película, puede que también sea de tu interés. La verdad, yo no me atrevo a verla pero si a ti te interesa ese tipo de contenido, anímate.
May: Maleficio, Stephen King
The author of this novel is well known for his horror works. Until now, I had read absolutely nothing by him. In fact, I think I have even shied away from movies based on his novels because they are not my favorite subject matter. So, here I took the leap of faith because if everyone agreed to read it, how could I oppose it?
To give you an idea, Billy Halleck is a lawyer who ran over a gypsy woman, who dies and because of that murder he and other members of the story are cursed. Billy's curse was pronounced by an old gypsy who told him, "thinner".
Billy begins the story overweight, he narrates the trial process, the support he received, the relationship with those who helped him and those who judged him. He feels guilty and narrates very well how he faces the consequences of his actions. It was another novel that we read together from the beginning and just to find out what happened to the gypsy or what happened to the other characters, we kept our eyes open.
The novel has a movie, maybe it will also be of interest to you. To be honest, I don't dare to watch it, but if you are interested in that kind of content, go for it.
Junio: La otra orilla , Julio Cortázar
Ahora estamos leyendo esta recopilación de cuentos de Julio, son cuentos bastante breves, los hemos leído con facilidad aunque la temática entre ellos tiene bastante relación. Estos cuentos me parecen bastante abiertos a interpretación, la narración te permite imaginar circunstancias un poco irreales pero sinceramente interesantes o entretenidas.
Nos hemos reído con varios cuentos como el de “La Bruja” que fue la primera meta que nos colocamos, es decir, leer desde el primer cuento hasta el que acá te menciono. También el de “Las manos que crecen” estuvo simpático, me dio risa y también me impresionó que el médico le dijera que esperara un poco más hasta que llegara su amigo periodista para hacer el procedimiento.
El día de mañana tendremos la conversación de estos cuentos y también daremos inicio a la nueva lectura.
June: The Other Shore , Julio Cortázar
We are now reading this collection of short stories by Julio, they are quite short stories, we have read them easily although the subject matter between them is quite related. These stories seem to me quite open to interpretation, the narration allows you to imagine circumstances a little unreal but honestly interesting or entertaining.
We have laughed with several stories like "The Witch" which was the first goal we set ourselves, that is, to read from the first story to the one I mention here. Also the one about "The hands that grow" was nice, it made me laugh and I was also impressed that the doctor told him to wait a little longer until his journalist friend arrived to do the procedure.
Tomorrow we will have the conversation of these stories and we will also start the new reading.
Mitad de Junio-Julio: Diario de Bunker, Kevin Brooks
La novela que comenzaremos fue recomendada por @sheregiuliani que aunque ya lo leyó se comprometió con nosotros a leerlo nuevamente.
Ella escribió una publicación apenas lo terminó así que te lo compartiré por acá para que junto a nosotros comiences a adentrarte en esa historia.
Recomendación: Reseña del libro Review of The Bunker Diary By Kevin Brooks
Luego de esta novela, buscaremos nuevamente alguna dinámica para ponernos de acuerdo en las lecturas que realizaremos, las que acá te mencioné fueron propuestas por lectores e hicimos un sorteo para elegir el orden de cada una de ellos.
Quiero de corazón hacerte saber que hacemos lo posible para que el grupo de lectores se sienta a gusto, pueda platicar sobre sus intereses, dudas o realice algún comentario solo insistimos en respetar la opinión del otro, hacer escucha activa y compartir tiempo de calidad en compañía de alguien que también siente pasión por leer.
Estamos realizando las lecturas de noche pero probablemente busquemos un horario más adecuado para que puedan participar más lectores. En esas actividades, procuramos platicar y leer por aproximadamente una hora aunque en algunas ocasiones la historia está tan interesante que nos extendemos un poco más.
Solemos conversar sobre nuestro día, comentar alguna buena noticia o en algunas ocasiones soltar algún pesar para posteriormente comenzar a leer. Intentamos generar un espacio seguro y divertido, donde cada uno de nosotros pueda conseguir un poco de apoyo, empatía o contención, no solamente queremos leer sino que también nos interesa conocer a quién está detrás de esa pantalla.
Te aseguro que a cada uno de nosotros, nos interesa conocerte a ti y que en conjunto continuemos experimentando distintas aventuras a través de las letras que alguien más ya plasmó en papel.

Mid-June-July: Bunker's Diary, Kevin Brooks
The novel we will start with was recommended by @sheregiuliani who although she already read it she committed to us to read it again.
She wrote a post as soon as she finished it so I'll share it with you here so that together with us you can start getting into that story.

After this novel, we will look again for some dynamics to agree on the readings we will do, the ones I mentioned here were proposed by readers and we did a raffle to choose the order of each one of them.
I sincerely want to let you know that we do our best to make the group of readers feel at ease, they can talk about their interests, doubts or make any comments, we only insist on respecting each other's opinion, listening actively and sharing quality time in the company of someone who also feels passion for reading.
We are doing the readings at night but we will probably look for a more suitable time for more readers to participate. In these activities, we try to talk and read for about an hour, although sometimes the story is so interesting that we go a little longer.
We usually talk about our day, comment on some good news or sometimes let out some regrets and then start reading. We try to create a safe and fun space, where each one of us can get some support, empathy or containment, we not only want to read but we are also interested in knowing who is behind that screen.
I assure you that each one of us is interested in getting to know you and that together we will continue to experience different adventures through the letters that someone else has already put on paper.

Feliz inicio de semana, sirva este momento para hacerme eco de @gabriellalpez2 para continuar activos y sumando más personas a este maravilloso Club de lectura Hive donde hacemos vida, y cultivamos el amor por este arte (se requiere de amor, pasión, compromiso para cambiar y fortalecer los hábitos de lectura) y estoy segura todos los tenemos.
En este espacio, además de leer, escuchamos, reflexionamos y hacemos que nuestra imaginación vuele, sueñe y se nutra de nuevas experiencias para la vida.

cada libro suena interesante, recuerdo haber leído cien años de soledad cuando está en el liceo, los otros no he tenido el gusto, perfume solo vi la pelicula, me gusta la lectura, pero no consigo tiempo para aplicarla, puedes decirme donde consiguen esos libros, para descargarlos, gracias de antemano, saludos.
Me alegra muchísimo que encuentres interesantes los libros que hemos leído en el grupo, sé de personas que se les complica leer por sus ocupaciones diarias y optan por buscar un audiolibro, por ejemplo, quizá mientras andas haciendo algo, escuchas un capitulo de algún libro que sea de tu interés. En el grupo siempre serás bienvenida y no es necesario que participes seguido, allá con gusto compartimos la lectura del momento. Un abrazo, feliz martes. 💜

Muy buenas noche amiga, esos libros cíen años de soledad y como agua para chocolate son excelente, y el segundo no es ninguna novela rosa trata las vivencias de los pueblos mexicano, te recomiendo el coronel no tiene quién le escriba de Gabriel G M.
Ciertamente, para entender el contexto de como agua para chocolate tuvimos que leer sobre la historia de México para entender la situación que estaban atravesando y hasta comprender el caracter de Mamá Elena , por ejemplo. Al buscar sobre ella dice que es una novela romántica + recetas típicas mexicanas y va mucho más allá de eso.

Una hermosa iniciativa hacer un Club de Lectores en #HIVE, sería bueno darle bases firmes, organizar concursos (no con el objetivo de ganar, incluso sin premios) para de esta manera poder publicar nuestras reseñas con una cierta regularidad. Incluso por géneros literarios, por autores, clásicos de la literatura universal y bestsellers, etc
He publicado ya varias reseñas en esta Comunidad y espero poder seguir haciéndolo en el futuro.
