Pero lo importante es seguir leyendo y encontrando joyitas para poder recomendar. Es por eso que hoy les voy a hablar de La Trilogía del Ganador de la autora Marie Rutkoski.

I'm looking forward to reading a lot of books but I don't have enough time and I tend to read slowly. Adult life, anyway.

But the important thing is to keep reading and finding gems to recommend. That's why today I'm going to tell you about The Winner's Trilogy by author Marie Rutkoski.

Estos libros los leí hace algunos años, y quiero decirles que al principio fue una decisión puramente superficial, miren esas portadas, me conquistaron desde el primer segundo en que las vi.
Pero, como sabrán, una portada no lo es todo en esta vida. Aunque, en este caso, tuve la satisfacción de que la historia que contenía en sus páginas fuera increíble.
Estos libros están llenos de intrigas políticas, amistades traicioneras y, por supuesto, amor.

Ahora sí, basta de preliminares. Les voy a contar mi opinión sobre esta trilogía sin spoilers. No les voy a contar de cada libro en particular porque sino quizá les estaría haciendo spoilers. Así que voy a hacer un paneo general de los hechos más importantes y el porqué es una buena opción de lectura.

I read these books a few years ago, and I want to tell you that at first it was a purely superficial decision, look at those covers, they won me over from the first second I saw them.
But, as you may know, a cover is not everything in this life. Although, in this case, I had the satisfaction that the story contained in its pages was incredible.
These books are full of political intrigue, treacherous friendships and, of course, love.

Now, enough with the preliminaries. I'm going to tell you my opinion about this trilogy without spoilers. I'm not going to tell you about each book in particular because otherwise I might be giving you spoilers. So I'm going to do a general overview of the most important facts and why it's a good reading choice.

Trilogía
Como les dije, y pueden ver en la foto, esta historia está compuesta por 3 libros: La maldición del ganador (2014), El crimen del ganador (2015) y El beso del ganador (2016).
Me gusta que las portadas tengan esos juegos de colores y variaciones en la postura de la modelo. También me gusta que hayan incluido la espada , porque es bastante simbólica. Y, como ya les comente, estos libros me entraron por los ojos. Igual no hay que juzgar a un libro por su portada tampoco, puede salir bien como puede salir mal.

Trilogy
As I told you, and you can see in the picture, this story is composed of 3 books: The Winner's Curse (2014), The Winner's Crime (2015) and The Winner's Kiss (2016).
I like that the covers have those games of colors and variations in the posture of the model. I also like that they have included the sword, because it is quite symbolic. And, as I have already mentioned, these books appealed to me through the eyes. But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover either, it can be as good as it can be bad.

Trama
La historia está ambientada en el medio de una guerra (valga la redundancia) entre dos naciones, los herraníes y los valorianos, donde los valorianos vendrían a ser los de clase de élite y los herraníes los esclavizados.

Como es todo un honor servir en estas guerras, está decretado que los valorianos, al cumplir los 20 años, tienen que alistarse para ser soldados o casarse sin cuestionamientos. Aparte siguen unas costumbres típicas de la antigüedad, con duelos a muerte y cuestiones de honor, prefieren suicidarse antes que traicionar a su pueblo o terminar como esclavos (que ironía).

Por otro lado, los herraníes son el pueblo que se vio obligado a replegarse, huir para reagruparse y tratar de recuperar sus tierras y sus hogares tomados o, si son atrapados y dejados con vida, terminan como esclavos.

La protagonista, Krestel, es la hija de un general de alto rango que es muy buen estratega y ya lleva muchas victorias ganadas por su astucia, ingenio y crueldad. Krestel, heredó de su padre el ser una buena estratega, es muy buena en juegos de apuestas, nunca pierde ninguna. Esto puede ser tanto un don como una maldición. Pero, más allá de todo esto, ella no está de acuerdo con esta guerra sin sentido. Su pensamiento es que todos deberían ser iguales, que no haya esclavitud.

En su contraparte se encuentra Arin, un joven esclavo herraní, con el espíritu más luchador y rebelde que se haya visto nunca. Como todos los de su pueblo, él odia a los valorianos.

Por una casualidad del destino, Krestel termina participando en una subasta donde se puja por quién va a comprar a Arin, que es un herrero de profesión, y como ella no pierde apuestas, se lo termina quedando.
Así este par va a tener que empezar a convivir, ¿podrán dejar el resentimiento y el odio de lado?, ¿demostraran que dos naciones enfrentadas pueden amigarse?, ¿habrá alguna salvación?

Plot
The story is set in the middle of a war (redundancy aside) between two nations, the Herranids and the Valorians, where the Valorians would be the elite class and the Herrani the enslaved.

As it is an honor to serve in these wars, it is decreed that Valorians, when they turn 20 years old, must enlist to become soldiers or marry without question. Besides, they follow typical ancient customs, with duels to the death and questions of honor, preferring to commit suicide rather than betray their people or end up as slaves (how ironic).

On the other hand, the Herrani are the people who were forced to retreat, flee to regroup and try to regain their taken lands and homes or, if caught and left alive, end up as slaves.

The protagonist, Krestel, is the daughter of a high-ranking general who is a very good strategist and has already won many victories due to her cunning, wit and ruthlessness. Krestel, inherited from her father to be a good strategist, is very good at betting games, she never loses any. This can be both a gift and a curse. But, beyond all this, she does not agree with this senseless war. Her thought is that everyone should be equal, that there should be no slavery.

In his counterpart is Arin, a young Herrani slave, with the most fighting and rebellious spirit ever seen. Like all of his people, he hates the Valorians.

By a quirk of fate, Krestel ends up participating in an auction where they bid on who is going to buy Arin, who is a blacksmith by profession, and as she does not lose bets, she ends up keeping him.
So this pair will have to start living together, will they be able to leave resentment and hatred aside, will they prove that two opposing nations can become friends, will there be any salvation?

Opinión
Lo que me gustó de esta trilogía es que siento que tiene personajes muy humanos, con sentimientos que cualquiera podría tener en una situación como la que atraviesan en esta historia.
Hay una buena prosa que la acompaña, la autora logra con palabras sencillas armar un mundo completamente real, te transporta a los hechos que están viviendo los personajes. Los escenarios son algunos muy crueles y sentidos, pero necesarios para enriquecer la trama.
Como se habrán podido dar cuenta, la trama principal ronda el conflicto bélico y la lucha de los herraníes por recuperar su territorio y liberarse de la esclavitud. Por supuesto que también hay romance, pero creo que no es lo principal en esta historia. Pero si se da de una forma tranquila, despacio, derribando barreras poco a poco. Me gustan mucho este tipo de historias, que comienzan con odios y terminan en amor. Te hace ansiar el momento de que estén juntos por fin. Aunque como en toda historia, hay muchos obstáculos y dramas en el medio.

Opinion
What I liked about this trilogy is that I feel it has very human characters, with feelings that anyone could have in a situation like the one they go through in this story.
There is a good prose that goes along with it, the author manages with simple words to put together a completely real world, it transports you to the events that the characters are living. The scenarios are some very cruel and heartfelt, but necessary to enrich the plot.
As you may have noticed, the main plot revolves around the war and the struggle of the Herrani to regain their territory and free themselves from slavery. Of course there is also romance, but I don't think it's the main thing in this story. But it does happen in a quiet way, slowly, breaking down barriers little by little. I really like this kind of stories, which start with hatreds and end in love. It makes you long for the moment when they are together at last. Although as in every story, there are many obstacles and dramas in between.

Krestel como protagonista femenina me gusta mucho, es de esos personajes que tienen fuerza y espíritu. No se deja doblegar y no se anda quejando por nimiedades. Además al ser hija de un general, tiene amplio dominio de las armas, pero también posee la dulzura para tocar el piano como nadie. Aparte, tuvo de niñera a una señora herraní, así que sabe su idioma, y varias de sus costumbres. Ella fue quien le enseñó a Krestel a valorar a todas las personas de cualquier linaje.

Hacen un buen complemento con Arin, que tiene una voz hermosa para cantar. Arin es un herrero y un guerrero sin igual, es uno de los miembros principales de la rebelión. Pero además tiene motivos de sobra para buscar venganza contra los valorianos y, sobre todo, con el padre de Krestel. Pero quizá esta le haga ver que no todos los valorianos son como él piensa. Pero los otros herraníes, cercanos a Arin y su misión, desconfían de ella y de lo que pueda representar para la causa.

I like Krestel as a female protagonist very much, she is one of those characters that have strength and spirit. She doesn't let herself be bent and doesn't complain about trifles. Besides, being the daughter of a general, she has a great command of weapons, but she also has the sweetness to play the piano like no one else. Besides, she had a Herrani lady as a nanny, so she knows their language and many of their customs. She was the one who taught Krestel to value all people of any lineage.

They make a good match with Arin, who has a beautiful singing voice. Arin is a blacksmith and a warrior without equal, he is one of the main members of the rebellion. But he also has every reason to seek revenge against the Valorians and especially Krestel's father. But perhaps this one will make him see that not all Valorians are as he thinks. But the other Herranians, close to Arin and his mission, are suspicious of her and what she can represent for the cause.

Si bien Krestel está en una edad para decir si quiere unirse al ejército o casarse y formar su familia, no está de acuerdo con ninguna de esas opciones. Su padre quiere que siga sus pasos, para eso la entrenó durante muchos años, pero a ella no le gustan las guerras ni lo que representan. Casarse parece una buena escapatoria y pretendientes no le faltan. Pero, obviamente, aparece Arin en su vida.

El conflicto bélico va a ser el eje principal en los 3 libros. En ellos van a atravesar por diferentes fases y complicaciones que deberán enfrentar, amistades que los traicionaran y enemigos que se convertirán en posibles aliados. Como ya les comente, muchos escenarios no van a ser muy agradables, pero es parte del encanto de esta historia. Todo el tiempo te mantiene en vilo de saber cómo acabará todo. Si se llegara a algún acuerdo. Si se acabara el conflicto. Qué pasará con los personajes.
A mí parecer tuvo un final acorde a lo esperado. Al menos quedé conforme con él.

Although Krestel is at an age to say whether she wants to join the army or get married and start a family, she doesn't agree with either of those options. Her father wants her to follow in his footsteps, for that he trained her for many years, but she doesn't like wars and what they represent. Getting married seems like a good escape and she has no shortage of suitors. But, obviously, Arin appears in her life.

The war conflict will be the main axis in the three books. In them they will go through different phases and complications that they will have to face, friendships that will betray them and enemies that will become possible allies. As I already mentioned, many scenarios are not going to be very pleasant, but that is part of the charm of this story. All the time it keeps you in suspense to know how everything will end. If an agreement will be reached. If the conflict will end. What will happen to the characters.
In my opinion, it had an ending according to what was expected. At least I was satisfied with it.

Realmente recomiendo estos libros.
